Default Quick answer if poss - MAF sensor on MY98 - how much?

Anyone recently bought a MAF sensor for an MY98? If so how much did you pay? My brother-in-law's Terzo has just had the CEL light come on so I did the diags thing and code 23 is showing (MAF sensor). Just rung up main dealers and they say £247 + vat for a new one! Is this right?

I changed my MAF recently (MY00) and it cost around £80 iirc.

Just been charged about £75 fitted on MY99 Uk Turbo. (Edited to include: Car was in for a service, so probably no labour cost...).

Yeah yours will be the same as mine, I know the MY98 MAF is different but surely not £200 different

they are charging you for the sensor and black plastic casing it fits into. Tell them you just want the sensor on it's own, works out about £80!!

On the 98 you cant remove the maf sensor from the black plastic surround like you can on a 99 or 00, 98's are the odd ones out as they have a few parts that are special to just that year and the maf is one of those parts.
Your best off phoning some one like Grade A and seeing if they have a used one in stock, ive got one some where but id rather keep it just in case mine goes.
Look to spend about £100 second hand though

Andy

Cheers Andy, that's what the dealer have said, just seemed a bit odd that every other MY costs around £80 for the MAF sensor

Anyway, new MAF ordered, bank account £290 lighter

VER 5 and 6 is a cartrige that costs around £70.70 plus vat.
VER 1-4 is a complete body. Dealer cost is about £240 plus VAT.
Secondhand is £60 upwards and depends on what Model and M/Y but you need to be sure it is in good working order.
1-4 are fairly resilient but 5 and 6 do not have a good life span.
Vibration is a killer.
