If you have received a NIP (Notice of Intended Prosecution), then that simply asks you to incriminate (er, identify - if you were driving) yourself.
After giving them this info, you then get a Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty (or a summons, but only if you were very silly 'cos the "pratnerships" don't get the proceeds if it goes to court) - on which there should be an address for "If it is your wish to contest this allegation in court". That is shortly after the statement "This offence carries a maximum penalty of £1000" - just to **** you up
At least thats what Northamptonshire's finest do
The b4stards have it down to a fine (automated) art
