Are Subaru taking the micky?

Since most cars have moved on from using mineral oil to fully synthetic oil, do our Scoobys really need servicing at every 7,500 miles/6 months? My Wife's Peugeot 206 GTI requires servicing at every 20,000 miles/2 years and my friends Fiat Coupe Turbo is 12,000 miles/12 months.

Better ask the Evo drivers - I think they are even less . I used to run a 205 GTI and a 306 S16, only three things mattered - oil, oil and oil. There's no way I'd go 20000 miles between changing the oil (on any car for that matter).
A lot comes down to how you drive the car and as Scoobies are performance turbo charged engines I don't think it is a bad idea to do regular oil changes. You will find people on this board who will do an oil change every 3000 miles or so.
Do a search on the subject as well, there has been loads written on this.
Cheers

Come on guys, we're talking about a high-performance vehicle here.
EVO's are every 4500 I believe, so we're quite lucky.
Just spare a thought for those of us that do 7500 miles every two months!!!
Stef.

Never, ever cut corners on oil (or tyres) Use the best oil , not the cheapest, and the harder you drive the more often you shoud change it.
(after every track day for example)
£40 for oil and filter to do it yourself.
You love your car ? Treat it right !

If you want your engine to last change oil and filter as often as possible.
If you are cynical, change your car very few years and don't care about maintaining fsh, don't bother'

There is another factor.
All turbo charged engines overfuel, for combustion safety. This excess fuel will dilute the oil over time and I would never leave it more than the scheduled time.
EVO's pump loads of fuel through, hence the lovely flames on track days (and on the French motorways, Mrs Bolton) and that is probably influential in the shorter service period.

Yup, we have to do em every 4500 miles, so many damn fluids, I forgot what they all do.
Annoying this is, though, it costs 300 quid for an interim!! Considering the Scoob costs about 80 quid, thats a damn sight worse deal if you ask me!
