From my own point of view, if I was like that I'd kill myself. I couldn't live like that.

Heard of Jacquelines tragic accident a couple of years ago and was gob smacked then, reading it just now it still has the same effect!!
Also take into account driving the next morning!!

Its been around the net for many years now but still makes me sad to see that. I'm going out this afternoon and taking the scoobie, ignoring everyone else I dont want to lose my car so thats a good enough reason not to drink for me!

Beware in the morning. I went out last night and did the decent thing and left the scoobie in the garage and got a lift home. Have just got up and breathaylsed myself and I am still over!! I am always wary now after a friend was breathalysed the day after when she clipped a kerb with a police car following behind (she's not the best driver anyway) and she was over. She got an 18 month ban and £300 quid fine. It's taken me 33 years to become a scoobie owner and I am not prepared to lose it now.

i have been running pubs for about 8 years now and still cant believe people stagger out off the pub, into their cars because they don t want to wait half an hour for a cab or lay out a fiver for one.
this problem happens all year round, not just at xmas even though there is much more advertising about and people know the police are looking for it, and its not just the old school drinkers who have been doing it for years.
people are of the understanding, i ll have two or three and be ok, but i think zero tolerance is the way forward, may effect my business but that my opinion.

was a victim myself, hit by a drunk travelling at over 100mph, combined impact speed 175MPH so the police told me, I was very badly smashed up and had to learn to walk again, I have seen these pictures before, and it breaks my heart

My ex brother in law was a serial drink driver, car salesman by day. He annoyed someone in the pub who shopped him to the Police as he went off to his car, he got pulled immediately, lost licence, job and everything. Serves him right. Last seen selling timeshare in some foreign port!

I was caught for drink driving christmas 2003 at 3am. I wasn't drunk but had too pints and was over. I got a 9 month ban and £100 fine. I was completely stupid not because of getting a ban but if I ended up doing something like that to somebody. Makes me feel quite horrible. Them pictures are awful!!

Good lord, poor thing! I'm surprised she survived.
Maybe if this stops just one person (but preferably many more than that) from driving after they've drunk ANY alcohol then some good will have come out of this tradegy.
Awful, just awful story. A wicked waste..... and for what?

I had not seen this story before - thank you for posting it.
I don't drink so I certainly don't drink and drive - however this story has far greater relevance than simply a warning of drink driving.
Astonishing woman who is rebuilding her life and not giving up in spite of incredible challenge and pain.

As a Professional within the Operating Theatre environment I have seen this all too frequently. It is about time that the reality and gravity of the injuries are put into context. All to often a tragidy is measured by the number of fatalities when in my opinion it is more often the survivors who are worse off.
It also needs pointing out that although alcohol is still a highly publisied problem, drugs and driving is on the increase too in the UK.
Worst of all is a combination of the two.
I don't drink ever and have never taken drugs so I feel quite strongly when speeding statistics are related to fatalities when in actual fact there are often other issues involved.
Alcohol
Drugs
Immigrants without licences
Drivers in general without licences
Unroadworthy cars.
Food for thought...

As someone said already, spirited driving is just as if not more dangerous. I know id be more likely to have a crash on a breakneck hack down a b-road in the scooby one afternoon than if id had a few beers and was poodling home one evening hypothetically speaking. The problem is anyone thats just started driving thats had a drink will probably drive faster than normal, go into race-mode and be far more likely to have a prang than your average middle-aged man whos had a drink.

I'd much rather come across a person who was enjoying their car in the right conditions than someone who was under the influence.
