|Not sure about his group 17 insurance claims, especially seeing as it's modified both externally and mechanically!! I'd get a pre purchase inspection done for sure.

hi ther ac, did a rac check and it comes up as a GL, he's saying its cos its an import. By inspection u mean like an RAC inspection? would u know any good inspection groups? Can stage 2 mean anything, also if its got a bigger turbo surely it must have been remapped resulting in limiter being removed? No

not sure on the price , but depending on what you want to use it for, be a little carefull of the close ratio box, not a lot of fun if you have much motorway driving to do,
Have a good one

Tim,
wot do u mean asbout close ratio and motorway, gonna use it for general commute to work (10 miles, 2 jcns on motorway in light traffic) and weekend shopping, usual boring family stuff, with occasional fund driving . But u got me worried about clse ratio box now.

No idea what stage 2 means, i'm guessing he had a TD04 and put in a TD05? I've used the AA before for ppi, very happy with them. About it coming up as a GL ?? I know a lot of people who've done HPI on imports and it's always come up with what they are, so tread extra carefully.

In my honest opinion, if you really like the car then no one can stop you buying it. But, there are certain points that you need to check over.

It's a 1998/R car but the advertiser has the date of registration as 03/02/2000.

It will be more than insurance group 17 due to it being an import and also the performance modifications it has.

I have no idea what the advertiser means about a stage 2 turbo. If the car has FSH (which he states it has) make sure that you go through and check all the bills, receipts for proof that these mods have been done.

An STI gearbox has closer ratios than a UK/WRX car so when driving on the motorway the engine will be reving higher. This can annoy the hell out of you.

As far as I know, you cannot convert the car to MPH without removing the 112mph restrictor. But I may be wrong.

Just make sure that you have a good look around the car and make sure you get an RAC/AA inspection, HPI checkl, etc.

£6000 may be a little steep in the current market, just make sure that you negotiate a bit more money off.

Good luck with it all!!

Ben

The standard uk classic Impreza are group 17. Later models of Impreza went upto 19

thanks to all u guys, ben, raf for your advice, I do really like it i think the reg of 2000 is when it was buoght over here. i will check out more and will take for a motorway drie just to make sure i won't get sick of it quickly. Does close ratio mean that due to it reving more it will drink more petrol and more strain on engine?

thanks again guys

Don't forget that it's a buyers market at the moment and there are a fair few of these cars around.

The gear ratio`s mean that it will only do around 19 ish mph per 1000 rev`s ( a bit either way for tire size etc) that is around 4000 rpm for normal motorway cruise, the box is designed for the RA to be used in more of a compatition setting , giving very fast exeleration , but not much top end / resonable cruise,
as someone else said theres a fair few of them around , have a look in www.autotrader.co.uk or www.tradeit.co.uk for a resonable idea on the going prices, but If you are going to use it mainly for your above mentioned , I would stick with a resonably standard , uk model car , it will run on standard "supermarket" petrol (although it will go better on optimax) not shake your brain out , and also as mentioned , it should show the correct model on the HPI no matter where in the world it`s from or not at all

Thanks again everyone for sahring your info knowledge. Excuse my ignorance but wots RA. Also, it is a bit highly priced isn't it. Is ther anyway I can check if it's been regged or abused in anyway, I know they're made for driving fast etc.. but i believe there's a difference between spirited driving and abusing. Damn, 19 mpg isn't very good at all, but i guess thats a sacrifice you make.

It only says it has a close ratio STi box in it. The STi box is lower ratios than a UK box. The Type R & RA ratios are the very close versions. STi ratios are not bad. MPG is very dependent on how it's used, single figures are possible on track or high 20s if your gran drives it

Have a read here. http://www.sidc.co.uk/faq.htm

I'd first check if the seller on ebay and the one on here are the same person. It's rather suspicious that the car that was sold here in early November is now up for sale on ebay. Is is the same guy or someone else? Do some metaphoric legwork to make sure it's genuine first. IMO

Just had a look and it is the same guy.

A couple of observations: It doesn't have the facelift bonnet which changed with MY 97 nor the STi interior, i.e. front seats should be alcantra & bear the STi logo. There's also no underbonnet pix, which is unusual to say the least. Personally I'd be very cautious and want a lot more details. You could ask him for the details from the vin plate and check them against the model series on the sidc faq page.

Houghton, Its not actually an STI, its the Jap Import so he's saying it has teh UK STIs power and looks, but not the insurance - Ive got a V4 saloon and its the same as his.

The date of first reg is when it was registered with the DVLA (I know as ive only just done this!!)

Im honestly not sure about the group 17 claim tho, mind you, I have insured mine and it only cost me £1650 at 23yo.

Also, the 112mph restriction should have been removed for the SVA test it will have gone through.

Hope this helps.

Adam

He's calling it a WRX STi in the ebay title which is misrepresentation if it's not an STi and very misleading for someone who doesn't have much knowledge about Imprezas.

Sorry, you're right, the bonnet is correct.

As for insurance, companies don't like modded imports, as you know.

Unmodded UK here that doesn't look bad and will be easier & cheaper to insure. There's quite a few wagons about if you search. Depends what you want really.
