Default New Sti PPP owner - help needed

Had my new Sti about 2 months now and this damn web site is convincing me to start changes !!!

If I fit a de-cat pipe will the Subaru warranty be void ? And how do you get the car through an MOT - do you have to refit the cat to get a ticket ?

Sorry if these are a bit obvious!

Thanks

Generally, any performance mod other than the PPP will kill off the warranty. You have to decide how important it is to you... A friend of mine was going to put a full decat on his P1. It's a good thing he didn't because he extended the warranty in the fourth year and both his gearbox and engine went t!ts a couple of months apart!

Like everything in life, it's a gamble. Personally, if I was going to buy an STi and mod it, I would buy one which was a couple of years old. I would not buy a new UK car and shaft the warranty with modifications...

Just my opinion.

Mind you, if you can afford £2-3k for a gearbox and £3-5k for an engine then go for it...

Mark.

I'm just going to have to avoid driving any modified STI !

I bought my 03sti in late 2003 and had the ppp fitted 6 Months later. I have been in other 'fast' scoobs and to be honest the new age PPP kit on the sti's is very good, giving a great spread of power and faster times all round, well worth the money and it's MOT friendly.
The suspension on the 05sti's is also a great improvement on the previous new age models, to be honest I would not change the set-up at all.

The best mod you can do is to buy your self a cheap run about for work & nipping to the shops etc.....& save the STi for weekends
Then every time you go into the scoob it will be like a flying machine

Yeh,

Drive an 'everyday car' for a week, it makes you appreciate the scoobs abilities.

Thanks Dipster - Probably saved me £3K and no warranty !

You wonder some days on here that if you dont modify you'll be the odd one out...

I've got Rally Mudflaps and an Sti tax disk holder !! That may be enough.......(I hope..)

Also as has been pointed out to me on many occasion don't forget to consider spending that money that would have gone on non warranty friendly mods on some good driver training instead.

It will help you to much better enjoy the potential of your car with the added benefit of being safer. Plus you would probably ultimately quicker than with the mods alone !

Totally agree, driver training is real good fun and you learn from the experts as well.

That’s why my suspension is std, I'm no way near it's limits yet

I have just PPP'd my MY05 WRX and love it ..... I would have also loved to have uprated it via reputable tuners and saved a bit of money whilst getting some more power - but as the car is only a year old I value the warranty.

I had a similar experience to one of the earlier posts ... except in my case it cost me - I had a car modified a few years back and the gearbox went .... twice ! I had invalidated my warranty when it was 'chipped' and it cost me a small fortune just to keep the car on the road. Had I have been cautious I would have saved a mint !

Just my experience FWIW and why I went for the PPP option.

Had the 05 Spring kit fitted to my 05 STi a few months back. Dramatically changes the car for the better IMHO. I'd recommend that upgrade to anyone.

Thanks for that - is that better value than the stage 1 Suspension pack from Powerstation for £460 + VAT ??

Or are they a different kind of mod ??

Thanks again

Never tried the Powerstation Suspension pack, but would have thought it would be similar to the Prodrive one. However one thing to bare in mind is that Prodrive have had serious development of their spring kits with fully qualified engineers, who know how to setup a car. Not slagging Powerstation off, cos I havn't used them, but I doubt they've done as much development as Prodrive, or have the resources.
It wouldn't hurt though to phone Powerstation & ask. It may well be there pack is more suited for track work?? They might have a demo car.
