Red face Understeer issues . .

Hi Guys . .

Still relatively new to Subaru, so hoping you might be able to help . . This summer took delivery of my first ever Scoob - a WRX 300 . .Really do love the car . . .Powerful, confident and fun to drive . . Feels like been seriously missing out . . But if there is one thing that troubles me a little is that it has (at times ) a propensity for understeer - - but happens when I am keen to put it on limit handling . .

Could any of you tell me, what is the way to negotiate understeer in a Scoob . . . .Hear some people recommend to actually put the foot down and let the car do the rest - meaning to correct itself . . . .Bit tricky whan the reflex is to ease off . .

Any ideas / suggestions please . . .

P.s . .Do you think the blue font is particularly appropriate for Scoobynet? (Sorry . .Bad joke)

Slower in and faster out

Putting more power on or more Lock on during understeer will only make matters worse. Reduce the speed and lock till the Front wheels regain grip. The throttle is not an on/off switch and feathering the throttle/Power should get the all important grip back to the steering wheels.

Ps I'm no expert driver (stuck my 02Sti in a tyre wall)

Spend about £300-350 on a driver Training the "Wetter the better"/"Prodrive driver Training"/ Andy walsh "1stlotus". etc etc thats just to mention a few The normally you have 1 Rads drive to 2-3 learners for that price 1 to 1 is around £700

You've spent loads on your new scoob, some proper Training if your young and a quick learner go for 1-1 otherwise do two 1-2 it will be the best Performance Mod your make.

IMHO,AFAICR and IIRC

Blue font gets you noticed and remembered, not always a Good Thing on Snet!

IMHO:
Get rid of the u/steer in the chassis then drive as your reactions tell you; a bit safer/predictable that way.

Ridding the chassis of u/s is easy and not too expensive.

Fit or have fitted by a good independant such as PowerStation:
Whiteline rear anti roll bar (22mm) and solid links set in middle position
Noltek top mounts to the front existing struts.
Camber bolts in the rear struts.
PowerStation alignment set-up.

Drive it home carefully untill you are used to the neutral chassis you thought the Impreza always should have had.

Drive it like you stole it and you will be very happy.

Graham

ps You should have put this question in 'Suspension' and you will get a broader range of responses.
If you need some advice, call Rich/Andy/Curtis at Powerstation. Tell them '911' sent you.

Definately rear uprated anti roll bar, solid droplinks and if nothing else a good geometry check/setup (total ~£200). This will really eliminate the inherent understeer you mention and transform the car.

In other words 4 wheel drifts balanced on the throttle are a doddle..!

Shouldn't really effect your warranty either unless you have an @rsehole for a dealer..!

Prodrive springs and a good geometry setup will help but not eliminate it altogether, but it's warranty friendly. Stops body roll and car is more planted as well and helps steering feel.

Otherwise the rear ARB etc as per 911's comments will be more effective but of course these are not Subaru parts hence could affect warranty.
