Default HIGH MILEAGE IMPREZAS

I have just brought a 1996 turbo with 100 thousand on the clock.it has been serviced regular with all the reciepts and when i test drove it everything seemed ok. After having the car a few days it has started to make a few noises and sometimes when ticking over in traffic it feels like its going to cut out.does this mean the engine is on its way out and should i be looking for a new engine.
any comments would be helpful.
thanks
simon.

Don't jump to conclusions and think its a big engine issue, probably something much simpler and cheaper to fix such as a sensor or two (MAF/lambda/sparkplugs etc). what noises by the way?

Sounds like lambda sensor or MAF.

Scoobys with 100k on them can be as good as new if they've been looked after there are stacks of Legacy turbos out there with 180K+

My last Scoob was an STI 5 wagon (purely a road car) - I bought it 3 years ago with 100k on it and it lasted another 30k before one of the piston rings failed.

My first track Scoob engine ( about 70k) failed after 8 track days with full decat/induction kit but no extra engine mapping to cope with the fact that it had started to run lean. That was a lesson learned!
