Shouldn't have got rid of your last one!

I believe to pass the E-SVA, a car needs a model report (to list what it should be fitted with etc to pass the European directives relative to motorcars), if there is not one, you can commision one to be done, but this could cost between £5k-£15K - although you could then lease the report out at £300 a pop for others trying to import the cars!

So for a £13K car, you may have to spend an additional £15K to get it on the road!

Well rather than pay all that money why not just lease someone elses as said for a few hundred quid. Surely someone out there must be leasing a model report for them

They arent; to the best of my knowledge no one has commissioned the necessary comparison tests so there wont be a Model Report.

Why import peccy, when there are cars like this for sale
I'd buy it myself, but got to sell mine first

There are no Type-Rs there Jonny; only GC8*48Ds, I presume that youre agreeing with me?

Leon; Ive got no idea mate, a lot of bollocks is talked about MRs by people who dont really have any idea what the craic is. I saw someone ask a person in Cyprus to bring him one back like a f*cking magazine the other day! Ive given up trying to explain to people now.....

I read somewhere here that E-SVA related to pre-MY97 cars. If correct, then what's the problem? Both are around MY 99.

The E-SVA is only relevant for cars registered on or after 01/01/1997. Not before this date. If the car was registered on the 31/12/1996, then that is fine :-)

Why have they made it so certain cars are now unavailable to import.
At the end of the day with a few changes like kmh to mph etc etc they are perfectly fine or our roads especially as they were once able to be imported. Why are they no longer accepted ?

Thumbs up

yes agree mate, think the problem is the pressure put on the DTI from all the big car manufacturers so they try to make it as hard as possible to bring cars in to the country as it affects sales of new cars.

its funny that you are allowed to bring a car over 10 years old in and only need an MOT, you would think these are the ones that should be more strictly governed!

I just passed my SVA to bring my STi Type-R V5 into the UK. I managed to do it cause my car is a personal import from Cyprus and that I have owned the car in Europe for the required period of a year. If I hadn't of done this, I would have needed a model report. The guy from the UK Department Of Transport who did my test, reckoned that mine would probably be one of the last Type-R's imported into the UK!
