Default 12-year-old tatty imports.

Are they ruining Scooby ownership for you? It just seems to me that every other thread is "Hi, newbie just brought[sic] a 93 wrx d'ont[sic] no anything about it, eny 1 no the bhp?"

I suppose it's not going to affect newage owners so much but as a careful and conscientious classic owner....... I can see my insurance going through the roof

I agree; further to that the low quality imports (and they nearly all are) will only further depress residuals for all Classics. I wonder if the more mature owner, such as myself, will escape the coming hike in insurance premiums?

may be not every one can afford a new one ,,so they have to buy a 12 year old tatty one "as you put it",,,but it doesnt mean they are going to make the insurance go up........................GET A GRIP

Are UK scoobs that far above the imports in terms of price? I mean, early WRXs aren't even that much more powerful either, especially when the fuel quality is taken into account. Why would anyone go for these unknown sheds anyway?

so what you going to do....

A car with full service history will still sell for more than a car without.

I have a grip, thanks! No-one's talking about buying a new one; we're talking about buying an unknown quantity set against a decent UK car. The people who buy these ****boxes because they can't afford to buy better certainly can't afford to maintain a "safe" Impreza by the same logic.

Oo, look - five question marks. That denotes severe irritation in the lingua franca of the 12-year-old-import owner on the defensive.

Ffs; look at the state of the majority of the owners and look at how they drive. Those that have bothered with insurance are a risk nightmare. What effect do you think these f*ckwits will have on all Classics' insurance?

I don't suppose you could tell me what [sic] stands for. I always thought you just used "quote" when you were quoting someone. I've asked this question to a few people, so perhaps you can be the one that provides the answer

I don't think age has much to do with it...as soon as they start off with the sticker, tea tray wings and naff bolt on bits, it could be a a 3months old car and still look like a ****box.

It's not the car...it's the owners that need sorting. A graduate at the Stevie Wonder car styling college would have better taste and style that the average owner of a tarted up Scooby.

Lumy, when you write "[sic]" it means that you are repeating something exactly, and that any apparent mistake is the mistake of the original writer, not your own.

^^ Hmmm, maybe the above is a little off topic

Back to topic I don't think that you will see a hike in your insurance premiums Bubba. Insurance companies analyse lots of risk data. The people that are buying the really old Imports will not affect the insurance on your particular model

As unfortunate as it is that someone may have to save for years to get a £4k car. They do tend to have a higher level of claims.

This may not be very PC, but they tend to live in cheaper areas with higher crimes levels. Older cars are generally not that secure and get nicked more often. It just happens.

I've live in a lot of different places all within the Nottinghamshire area a few years back. The difference in quotes for the same car was simply staggering.

I brought a 93 wrx, and yes when i brought it it was not in the best of conditions, but with a few pounds spent on it, and then a few more on the engin i am verry happy with it. I have got part service and all receipts for it and have had no problems with it. I do not rag my car cos it is my pride and joy. The only time i really put my foot down is at pod. I have seen a few 05 plate owners and they like what i have done.

So to the ppl who can afford the top of the line new scoobs who have nothing better to do than whinge, you can kiss my a*s. You stuck up toffnosed p**ck who started this thread you at some point at the age of 20-25 had a car that you loved but was not the top of the range thats where i am now. But mark my words i will one day have a new top of the range scoob will not slag off the ppl who has a older car than me.

Some ppl make me sick and need to be brought down to the real world.

There are indeed plenty of reasonable cars of this age with responsible owners - if the market is being flooded with cheap imports thats just tuff luck, there is clearly a market.!

I bought a 10 year old car for the same price as a 5 year old 'home grown ' example-i could have bought a brand new one( in fact i could have bought 20 ) - you pays your money......I wanted sti specifically .

You sound like you're trying to do your best, but Scoobs aren't cheap cars to run. When you've paid your 4k for your heap (or your minter, if you're lucky) and the bills for minor and major services start to roll in, inevitable brake work, cambelts, tyre replacement at minimum £80 a corner and INSURANCE... where are the corners going to get cut? On safety, that's where, which means more accidents, and insurance premiums going up. Not to mention that earlier scoobs don't have decent alarms. Do the Insurance companies distinguish so rigorously between years and models?

Kinell... I'm not a toffee-nosed *****! I own a '99 classic that's passed the 100,000 mile mark. I refer you to an earlier post of mine. Perhaps you will read the thread before going off on one.
