Default Can you help? Re: subaru turbo sportswagon

HI ALL!

I WONDER IF ANYBODY CAN HELP PLEASE?

I AM LOOKING AT BUYING A USED SUBARU TURBO SPORTSWAGON AND DONT KNOW WHAT THE PRO AND CONS ARE OF BUYING EITHER A UK CAR OR A JAP IMPORT??

IVE GOT ABOUT 4 GRAND TO SPEND, BUT MAY HAVE MORE FUNDS IF IT IS WORTH ME GETTING A HIGHER SPEC MODEL "SAY" (STI ,VERSION ?) , IDEALLY I DONT WANT TO BE LOOKING AT ANYTHING OVER 80000 MILES ON IT!

I HAVE JUST RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM A JAP IMPORT SPECIALIST REGARDING A 555 STI WAGON IT HAS 47000 MILES ON IT BUT THEY HAVE STILL TO DECIDE A PRICE. THEY ALSO INFORMED THAT YOU CANNOT IMPORT USED STI,S INTO THE UK ANYMORE BECAUSE OF ESVA IMPORT REGISTRATION REGULATIONS??

AS I AM TOTALLY GREEN TO SUBARUS, CAN ANYBODY PLEASE ADVISE ON WHAT I SHOULD DO, AS I HAVE ONLY BEEN LOOKING AT EBAY SO FAR, AND ITS DOING MINE BRAIN IN!!!!!!!!!!

ITS GOT TO BE A 5 DOOR TURBO THOUGH!!

ALL THE BEST!

You won't get an STI version for 4K, that much i can tell you.

As for milage, you will find that imports usually have lower mileages
due to the very strict emmision laws in Japan, the cars have to be
moved on after covering a certain amount.

That said it's not a 100% cert that the mileage is correct on these cars !

You get more for your money and a quicker car if you go import but unless
you get it remapped you'll have to run it on Octane Booster aswell.

I certainly would'nt rule out a nice UK version but i think you'll have to go
for a car with a higher mileage.

I run a WRX wagon, it's an import and it is the full package, no lairy wings and
rally look but stealth, performance and practiallity all rolled into one.

One thing i would say is make sure you get a full RAC/AA inspection is your
serious about a certain car, it will cost you a few hundred but could save
you thousands.

As for the new import regulations, i don't know.

Rob

Hi mate, ive just spent the last 3 months looking for the exact same sort of car and i also had the same budget, i found nothing worth buying for that sort of money, they were either expensive tat or were just old and used with high miles so i had to up my budget to 6k and even then it was hard going. My advise to you would be stay clear of anything with sti written on it for this sort of money and also any imported car that states genuine low miles for peanuts, these cars could have covered any mileage.
Ive looked at so many so called mint low miles cars this week, taken one look and driven home again, for every 10 cars forsale 9 will be rubbish in one way or another.
Any sti you buy for this sort of money will need a rebuild in the non to distant future, thats if it is a real sti to start with.
I eventually found a dark blue 99 uk model wagon, fsh, 54000 miles and not messed with for 6k, its very nice and im happy with it.
Its a buyers market at the moment as there is so many forsale and people just cant shift them so make offers on cars that are a little over your budget you never no.
Just look at some of the comedy prices of some cars on this website are up for and look how long they have been forsale.
Im sure you will find something, good luck.

[Proper mint cars will fetch proper money. There are sooooo many trashed/thrashed cars around you need to be soooooooo careful. HPI will not show up Japanese write offs. I got offered £900 over book for my 00 UK wagon just 2 months back.Genuine cars will always cost more so be careful and good luck
