Default Engine differences between Jap and UK

I know loads of people ask what the differences are and which is the best.

All Im after is what the actual engine differences are to make the performance difference.

example car say a MY95 Import WRX (mine )

I know that the jap has the bigger TD05 turbo and obviously a different map. But are there any other main differences between the two. As the UK is only 215BHP and the jap is nearly 260BHP.

The STIs do have forged pistons; but the principal difference is the local fuel and emmission requirements.....

Do the WRX's only have the standard pistons etc. Ive been told not to go over 300bhp as the block cant handle it on the wrx but it can on the sti's.

Hows it going mate. Should see you on the Peak Tour in a few weeks..Was in the silver classic on the run up to Blackpool..

A closed-deck block is a little stiffer and it obviously provides a better head gasket sealing surface, but I dont think that the '300bhp maximum' advice youve been given is particularly knowledgable.

Ive seen UK cars figures that are very close to mine and they have had alot of mods. Where as mine has only a choice few like decat, induction etc nothing major. Is this then really just down to the map and turbo on the import??

Yes, it is mainly down to the map.

The majority are mapped to run on 100 RON fuel, this is where the extra power is made.

If you bring an import over here and run it on 95/97 RON fuel you won't get the
BHP figures quoted by Subaru, one thing you will get though is Detonation and that will kill your engine in seconds !!

People like myself, like the import because of the extra's you get like leccy folding mirrors, air con/climate control etc.
