Don't want a 'CHAV' image
I joined here a short while ago when I became the proud owner of what I class as the dogs danglies, (considering the amount of different cars I've had over the last 25+ years, that's saying something). To my inexperienced eye (this being my first Impreza) it looked lovely and goes like greased weasel sh*t, However, my period of ecstasy was short lived as several people pointed out that it wasn't quite as it should be (ie. wrong wheels, bonnet and spoilers etc) and unable to define which model, uk or japanese. The only bit that I think isn't supposed to be on there is the rear upper spoiler as it doesn't fit properly, but that may be just me being picky. Anyway, I would appreciate it if you could spare a few minutes to have a look and suggest which bits need changing to bring it back to it's original form (dare I say the word STANDARD).

I take some responsibility for that.
The car looks nice. Your insurance should be able to tell you whether it's an import from the reg. I think all the controversy came from you wanting to define what it was, which was difficult to do, given the mixture of parts.
Just enjoy it, unless you're determined to return it to "standard".

Your rear light clusters have had been tinted.
Your fogs/spots/driving lights or whatever was on there have been nicked.
Your hatch has been de-badged.
You've got some silver thing going on with your rear wiper.
It's got tinted windows.
It's got a number plate that says BAD.
Upper rear spoiler isn't std.

look like a japanese import wagon (pre 97) pretty much standard except alloys, tinted windows, slightly lowered suspension, de-tangoed rear brake lights and an enlarged rear spoiler. Cant see anything wrong with the bonnet.
The fog lights have been removed (obviously) and the trim (door step) (below the doors and around the back bumper) has been colour coded.
Looks very nice I reckon.
If the engine is original spec it will be producing about 215BHP and will be running a TD04 turbo so will produce a lot of nice useable torque low down in the rev range.
Does it have a KM/h odometer?
Whats the interior colour coding (seats)?

A few questions...............and answers
Whats a "de tangoed" mean.
What spoiler should it have.
What wheels should it have.
Is it possible to remove the tinting on the rear lights without doing any damage to them
Yes it has headlamp washers.
Its an MY94.
The odometer is in MPH.
The rear seats are in an anthracite grey and the roof lining is beige, the front seats are from a legacy as the original ones were stolen along with the foglights and wheels...see previous thread http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...baffled+newbie
Does anyone have a set of fogs for sale.????
many thanks again to all

It should have a smaller spoiler like mine:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...llerscooby.jpg
and it would come with 15" alloys as standard:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ai/15alloy.jpg
Those alloys will not fit the 4-pot brakes that your car shouldn't have but you really should get.

for got to mention, your exhaust is not standard. Cant really see it but it should be a twin pipe. Yours doesn't seem to stick out much and looks like it may be a single exit.

It is a UK car; notice the six star Pleiades badge (JDM cars have an italic I)and the UK-only headlamp washers. Theres nothing wrong with the rear lamps, especially when you consider the ****e that could have been fitted. The body side mouldings, mirrors and door handles have been painted to match the body colour and the rear S U B A R U emblem lettering has been removed. The upper rear spoiler is not original and it looks ****e; Id repalce it with an original part which will cost next to nothing. The front fog lamps are missing, if you wish you could fit STI-style covers rather then replacing them: 'Wagons always look strange when their roof rails have been removed too.....

The upper rear spoiler is a genuine subaru part, it's an STi5 and STi6 wagon spoiler, personally if it was me I wouldn't change it back to the standard turbo spoilers as they don't look anywhere near as good, instead you could always go for the STi6 lower spoiler which will compliment it much better. Although it does look like it needs fitting properly...
Other than that it looks sound mate, just get some foglights on and you're away!

I should have known the headlight washers meant UK car.
The tinted windows give it that jap import look.
I like the spoiler on the back too, want to get one for my wagon!

If you want to return your car to a standard WRX look you need to
loose the rear STI light clusters and the STI upper and lower spoilers,
If you want i am more than willing to let you have mine as a swap !!
I also thing the Wagons look better with just the rear windows tinted
loose the driver and passenger side tints.
Oh, and get some new foggys put in !!

The rear top spoiler is an STi one - the WRX version is a lot smaller, and doesn't have the gap in the middle.
If that's a genuine Subaru item, you'll get at least £100 for it, possibly more, if you can be bothered to change it.

I only want the upper anyway

In addition,
If its a uk car I believe that front grill should be in grey plastic? For the standard look that is. Also if your fuel gauge is on the right and temp on the left then that is uk spec. WRX was the other way around.
I also think the JDM's didn't have airbags but may be corrected on this.
Keep the colour coding matey, Looks good. Lose the front tints, change the rear lights to either standard or the proper STI ones (red/clear). The only really chavvy thing I think is those rear lights. Others obviously disagree but i think its a bit nova boy for me.
Oh and change the wheels, If I was you I would keep my eye out on here for some 98 spec 5 spoke 16's. They go for absolute peanuts and if you buy wisely you'll prob get some decent rubber too. Silver though, not gold!!! Are they sport wheels you have on?
Not being a wagon man I don't know much about spoilers but something just doesn't look right? Bit of a mismatch?
Bonnet - good.
Fogs - wouldn't bother mate, splash the cash and get some driving lamps, you'll wanna do that soon anyway. Retains originalish look too.
All in all a nice motor and not too far down the chav route to be rescued. I completely agree with your mentality. I think done right the early cars can be updated and retain the original look at the same time. IYSWIM? Tasteful improvements like later spec seats/wheels and colour coding are good. Lexus lights, huge spoilers and bodykits etc are V bad.

Don't want a 'CHAV' image
Well.... Thank's to 4X4Chris, Bubba Po, 7 Foot, Roojai,GC8, Leonpoole, Cookstar, Daft Lad, Big-G, Ali-B, scoobfan, BOB'5, Telboy, rb5ban91r & Ritch96 for all the input, I know a hell of a lot more about my car now thanks to you all.
It is a UK MY94, fuel on right, drivers airbag & h/lamp washers.
I have no idea on what sort of wheels are fitted (the roundy bits on each corner) on a more serious note several of you mentioned the brakes which worries me as mine are crap, so will 4 pot calipers bolt straight on ? and will a set of "98 spec 5 spoke 16's" fit over the larger calipers.
If somebody wants to swap a set of standard rear lights and clear side repeaters for my rears and smoked side repeaters that's ok by me, I live in Swansea....
Is it easy to remove the tint from the front windows without damaging the glass ????.
The upper spoiler will need some thought as I quite like it.
Thanks again guy's, going to have a rumage on Ebay for some bits (fogs, wheels & calipers).
derek

Later brakes will fit, but the original breaks arent 'crap' irrespective of the comments that people make. If everything isnt as it should be with your braking system then later discs and calipers will also be crap..... Assuming that the discs and pads are in good condition then Id look at your flexible hoses. Get a set of braided hoses and the cars braking characteristics will change beyond all recognition.
Personally; Id ditch the spoiler, theres almost no chance that its a genuine STI part... That said, Im considering removing the upper spoiler from my own car. If youre after stealth then re-fitting the 'Wagon's roof rails will help too.
