Question help! spoiler won't fit

purchased a v5 type rear spoiler from joy-tuning in germany. looked ok to me when received. gave my car & spoiler to friend to prep/paint/fit today.

he's just called and said the holes from original spoiler are way off and that it will take a minor miracle to make this spoiler fit and look good.

i therefore plan to re-list item on e-bay.

** can anyone suggest where i can get a replica v5 or v6 spoiler that will drop straight into existing holes on the bootlid without bonding/glueing and generally pi**ing me off **

cheers

Just return it and tell them you want your money back for the paint etc.

The other option is simply to take the plunge and drill your boot...
It needs to be fitted properly rather than just the original outer holes you need to bond it to the boot as well.
I picked up an original V5 and it had around a dozen or more bolts to hold it down.... I would not be happy just with the outer four as it is quite a heavy old lump on the back of the car.

You are far from the first person to have this problem trust me, if you check in the Styling Forum Clicky and have a good look through it or do a search you will find different methods of getting over this.
You are more than likely going to have to bond it as well as bolt it to your boot, but you should find plenty of advice on Styling about it.
Don't worry about the boot... I had to drill mine but I did find another bootlid that I bought for the future when I do want to sell the car I have the option of going back to standard then, they are quite cheap I payed £20 for one in the same colour as my car.
Just to add if the spoiler breaks into 2 sections you need to fix the one to the boot first then bolt the top part on after that should sort it out.

Any pictures to give us a better idea of what it is like ?

Hi,

I am a seller of these spoilers on ebay,- just to adding to this thread on a sellers perspective:

When you purchase one of these spoilers the 4 holes on either side of the spoiler should align with your current setup, if they don't stop here and send it back, not only will you have to mess around fitting (with miracle being the correct terminology) but it's probably a poorly made replica which will also be susceptible to water damage with your brake light. The spoilers will bow slightly around 1-1.5cm in the middle but the tape you get should be industrial strength double sided foam and keep it flush with your boot once installed, for added security use the centre predrilled holes to keep it nice and tight, otherwise you may experience 'wobble' when booting it around 80mph - A lot of people do not consider the amount of force these spoilers actually have to deal with,- If you're a cautious driver or a non-turbo driver then the additional drilling is reccomended but not essential, if you like to see the rev counter hit 8000rpm in 4th and 5th gear then take the extra precautions when installing, or better still don't bother buying one if you're not prepared to drill the centre section of your boot, you'll be a potential danger to other people on the road

Wherever you purchase this spoiler from, please take care! I have heard of a few horror stories where people have lost this type of spoiler on the motorway because they haven't fitted them properly, luckily so far no-one has been seriously injured but it's only a matter of time before something like this does happen and again Impreza drivers become frowned upon for yet another reason!

P.S - If anyone is interested we will be selling the repalcement brake lights for these spoilers on ebay this summer for about £25 do not want to menion my companies name as this post would be classsed as advertising so please do not request it just keep an eye out for it in mid-august on ebay

Chris

i got some parts from joy tuning for my mates golf, and must say they went on firts time and the finish was great, unlike a uk seller from the uk that sold a bumper for the golf, with no mountings/fitting kit, and it would have needed major surgery to fit the car
