Default Rip off Subaru Dealer!!!!!

My MY04 STI is currently in Holdcroft, Widnes for the 20k service and they just rang to say I need new front & rear brake pads.

Fair enough I thought, how much I asked - £427!!!!!

Now I'm not being funny but that does seem a little too high or what????

Also wanted £150 per tyre for P-Zero Nero's when I can get them for £120 fitted and balanced at Kwik Fit.

Anyone know a better place to go for the brake pads? Do I need a particular size etc

Cheers

A very skint Hanley

Try Alyn at http://www.asperformance.com/index.htm

He will do you a good price on uprated pads and be far cheaper than a main dealer.
I fitted FERODO DS2500 all round on my STI and they are fantastic compared to standard.

good luck

A f**kin rip off if you ask me

They also advised me that 3 of my tyres are illegal so I asked what the current tread is, the reply was under 2mm!!!

Now if the legal limit is 1.6mm and they are just saying it is under 2mm then they may still be legal. I queried this and asked them to ring me back with the *exact* depth and they haven't rang back.

Probably donoughting it round the car park now to shave a couple of mills off my tyres!!!

Yeah I went the DS2000 pad way and bought them from the link that someone else provided earlier in the thread.

I bought a full set front and rear and I think it was around £220. They are a piece of cake to fit. Took me about 30 mins - 1 hour max

I've got my 20K service in a couple of weeks and I am dreading what they say I need.

I have a feeling it will also need brakes and tyres seeing too!

Oh well...time to upgrade the pads and go for some 18's then!

Just tell them that you'll do the brakes and tyres yourself. Sorted job done

That's what I intend to do.

The thing that's annoying me is they phoned me and told me 3 tyres were illegal. When I asked for the tread depth they stated it as below 2mm, I asked for the *exact* depth and they haven't rang back.

If it turns out the tread is over 1.6mm then surely they're trying to extort money out of me saying the tread is illegal when in fact it isn't. Now if they had said the tyres were borderline that would be different.

They've now rang me back and said 2 of the 3 tyres have a depth of 2mm and 1 has a depth of 1.6mm

I'm not. As soon as the car is picked up today its off to Kwik Fit to have 3 new P-Zero Nero's fitted and balanced for £120 a tyre.

It's the principle and their attitude that stinks IMHO

I would suggest you have 4 rather than the 3, apparantly if you run a worn tyre and a new tyre it can cause issues with the diff later down the line.

for the sake of £120 its got to be worth it, then just keep the other as a spare.

sorry for more bad news, but better to know now than having to find out later when having to pay for a new diff.
