Default STI 8 Buying Advice

In the process of veiwing some STI8 for my dad

Right not a big problem as they are still under warranty but would like to know of any flaws/faults youve experianced

Any thing to look out for on a 2003 STI 8

Ive heard about the rear shock absorbers can become noisey

Any thing else to look out for ie MAF Sensor are are these ok now on the new age models

Thx in advance Nathan

Nathan,
you are correct about the rear suspension, usually the near side starts knocking.
Also there was a known issue with the battery going flat if the car was unused for any length of time, although i believe all of these to be sorted with the newer cars.
Mine has been sorted under warranty by the dealer, although they tested the battery and could find no fault, i insisted that they changed it anyway...

Do a search on here and you should be able to find some more info...

Good luck and i will hopefully speak to you again in the week..

do you know how that's fixed / what the cause is? I have that problem with mine. Been back to the dealer's twice and they can't find anything wrong with it? Prodrive springs on mine - 2002 STi7. Be pleased to find out what it is, very annoying at slow speeds.

its the rear near side top mount that causes the 'knocking noise'. when mine was fixed all that was done was to add a washer/spacer on to one on the bolts to get to a different part of the thread.

No probs mate but it's not quite as clear cut when buying cars... never rely on cars milage to judge... often as i've found many times and through people i know low milage cars arn't allways a good thing...
As an example Gaz a freind of mine has had two BM's both very low milage for the year, the same 328 , both the low mileage cars had several problems. both needed new clutches & both didn't go very well with numerous niggles ... Another Steve had two 328-330 cars to around the 130k mark hadn't had a single fault... and thats the same with my experience, i've had 5 company cars now that have done over 140k from diesel astras to 330bm and none had any faults, not one fault... none had new clutches either...
used regular instead of out for short trips with a heavy foot is far more important than very low miles... As born out by another mate who likes his jags gave up buying low milage after 4 he had had lots of problems... now he's had two with quite high miles without a single issue...

Just the otherside of the coin... and 40k is nothing for a modern car... its 4 sets of oil... or eight in my case...

regards

daz

Hi Dazza,

Dunno, just fancy a change, I normally keep my car 2-3 years, this one has very low mileage cos I worked in London for a year and travelled from Newcastle to Gatwick every week by plane. I have now moved to London
on a permanent basis.

I could keep it and buy a classic as well for my missus but the insurance down here is silly money and carjacking is a worry as well. 2 Subarus = twice as much chance of it happening.

If I do it will be my 5th Impreza
