disapointing day for me:(
i've got a 94 wrx
i have resently fitted a full magnex de-cat pipe and exhaust system.it already had an hks filter.
i decided to take it for a dyno test/power run @ clive atthowe at norwich in norfolk.
when it was on the roller's i knew something had to be wrong with it.
anyways: the report was: lambda slow to work+switch recommended
new sensor,P,a,s resovoir seal leaking, recommend fuel filter change(jap one still fitted) boost slightly low @ 10-11 psi, vehicle has misfire recommend checking coils when cold
the results were
246.4 bhp/6316 1/min(99mph) 227.4ibft/5509 1/min
which the lad who tested it said it still was surprizingly producing good power figures from such a lean car.
he warned me; not to drive hard until the prolems/repairs have been carried out and then checked.
they said that a rough price is about £400 to get it all sorted. but there was still no garantee these repair would cure the proplem of under fueling
what are peoples thought's on this??????????????????

First time mine was on RR it ran lean under power, turned out to be the fuel pump. This was checked by disconnecting the fuel return line and running it into a container. Produced a good flow initially that reduced to a dribble as the fuel demand increased.
Sorry to add another possibility into the equation

Get it fixed and then rechecked.
Surely better than a rebuild ?
well this is so true mate. but i thought it was running fairly well already, just a good job i had it dyno'd when i did.

Id say 246 doesnt sound too bad. These cars are about 236 out the box but that with jap fuel. So with Uk fuel probly about 230ish standard. Add a few horses for the zorst and filter and you got your 246 figure
I would defo say you have been lucky to identify faults so get em fixed but dont expect the car to hit 260+ next time.

Try taking it somewhere else!
I know several people who have been told exactly the same thing at the same place, including myself (before I knew better).
I took it somewhere else and that experienced Subaru specialist told me (and proved) that nothing was amiss. Another person was also diagnosed with the same problem. Same result again.
My friend went there the other week with a lack of power problem. He went, got told it would be at least £300+VAT to fix but he couldn't identify the problem. He came to me and it was immediately obvious that it was only boosting to .5 bar. (Something a so called expert should have checked?). A quick ECU diagnostics showed up a faulty pressure sensor - NOT £300+VAT of work in any garage!
These are all facts that I can prove if the need be, so don't you mods go deleting it!
Call me and I'll help you sort it out (I'm in Yarmouth).

Agree with above!
I would think you would hit more boost if the rollers were loaded up properly (many have noticed the lack of load on the rollers - and been down on power because!)

Hi Lee. Might wanna try asking for some advice here as well www.scoobycity.co.uk
Thats a local forum who may be able to give some more help.
(i'm often in Cromer and Sheringham so will keep an eye out for. Used to have a 00MY turbo but sold it a couple of months ago for Audi S3)

Getting to the real issues
lambda slow to work+switch recommended new sensor - ouch! determine if it is faulty. Look on ebay for one, or a breakers or pay >£160+VAT
P,a,s resovoir seal leaking - a couple of quid for the seal from the dealers and a 5 minute job. <£4.00 for power steering fluid
recommend fuel filter change(jap one still fitted) - £36-38 for a new one. 5 minute job (won't hurt to change it)
boost slightly low @ 10-11 psi. - fit a boost gauge (if not already it will probably be useful later on) and investigate from there (on the streets in higher gears). There may be a leaking/cracked hose.
vehicle has misfire recommend checking coils when cold - It will be more noticable when on boost. You will definitely feel it. New coil packs are about £200 and maybe upto an hour fitting for someone who hasn't done them before. It's not always best to buy second hand coil packs.
the results were
246.4 bhp/6316 1/min(99mph) 227.4ibft/5509 1/min
That's a little bit down on what I would expect from a '94 (240bhp standard), but may be due to the boost being slightly down on normal.

Good prices for lambda sensors here:
http://www.cats-direct-shop.co.uk/lambda-sensors.php
Fuel filters can be had for less than £36 too. Try some of the independents.

More like 15 squid m8!

I was being cautious on my pricing, assuming main dealer prices. For someone who wouldn't bother with ringing around to get a mail order one.
If it was for me personally, I wouldn't be paying retail prices
