Which Gearbox?
Not sure which way to go with my gearbox.
I will need a new one soon as my box is not in the best of condition. (crunching into fifth).
I have just had a full rebuild Forged everything VF-34, 550,s and im a bit worried my box wont last too long.
I was considering an STI six speed box as they are supposed to be good for 500+BHP as I may want to go for bigger injectors, turbo and FMIC later this year.
What other options do I have and where else can I get a box built? I have searched high and low but am no better off. Does anyone use straight cut gears on here?
Also why is a dog box so much of a pig on a road car? Has anyone here got one? I dont want one Just curious.
Sorry for like a squillion questions!
Any advice would be greeeat!!!
Cheers
ps. I have a MY99 STI 5 Type R

I, like you have been assessing gearbox options and have considered many! IMHO I would suggest rebuiding the one you have with PPG straight cut gears, you have the option of either syncro or dog engagement.
Have a look here, all the bits and a build service

Really?
I did not know that I just thought id buggered it!
What is the advantage of straight cut gears and is every gear straight cut? Would that not be really whiny on the m'way?
Do you know how much power/torque that gear set is good for?
Thanks for the info guys!

Straight cut gears are a lot stronger not sure how much power they can take but it is more than a standard box.
No doubt someone on here will know more on them.
