long shot but i just had my offside rear top mount fixed on a 04STI. Apparently a common fault although mine knocked all the time - not just on full lock

My 05 STI has just developed a sligt knock at slow speed from the O/S rear and it sounds like it is coming from the suspension strut. Sounds like I need a new top mount too.

This is a common fault on the new age scoobs, if that's what you've got. It's the rear top mounts and can be replaced under warranty

hmmmm I to have this noise at low speed ... like a little knocking sound from the rear passenger side. Would not have expected it as the car is MY05 brand new with only 2k miles on the clock.

Gonna give subaru a ring and see what they say.

Is that what you guys think the problem could be .. on a brand new car with low mileage?? :/

my 05sti v9 has a major problem but similiar.i launched quite hard at the lights and got aloud bang from the rear pass side wheel. its been into the dealer four times and still not cured!!
a regional service manager came out to diagnose fault and admitted its common and mine was worst than most even after having a new strut!theyve just replaced the rear diff but it still makes a noise under load.
i,m now booked into different dealer to see if they can rectify !
hopefully it,ll get cured, i,ll keep u posted as yours sounds similar. funny how its that side affected

My 05STI is also booked in to my local dealer for a regional visiting techy bloke to have a look at (20th July). The cars been in twice already (once for 3 days!!) and its not cured.
The knocking noise occurs when the car changes from engine load to engine break (not immediately but say quarter/half a second later).Started at 1000 miles and has got louder and more frequent(probably cuz its louder and I hear it more).
Its almost all the time now (8500miles)
Oh - and it seems to come from somewhere near the rear passanger side.

Top mounts changed a month ago, but back in on Monday again as the noise came back in about 2 days.

They will probably find out that it is the jack in the boot rattling about.

I am sure i have the same problem with my 53 sti8, have noticed over the last 3 months that a continuous knocking sound comes from the back not very loud just like if something was moving around in the boot and i only hear it when going at low speeds on uneven roads ??

I think i had the same fault on mine, pull the rear trim panels off and drop the roof lining down, easier if you remove grab handles as well.In the top corners of the rear screen you will see 2 white plasic locators. These are used when the screens are fitted.Just cut the pins off and gently prise base off screen and your noise will be gone.It took me ages to sort on my car.For me to find this i stripped all the trim ,hope this helps JASON

i have the panel off and the roof lining down but i cant see why it could be the white plastic as its very secure it there and has no chance of moving about ?

Cut them off with side cutters or the like, and just gently ease those white base plates from screen. Its those pegs which rub on the metal due to body flex
