Default wrx gearbox with a sti engine

just got back from honeymoon in barbados where every car seemed to be either a subaru,Mitsubishi or toyota. i went on the heatwave catamarang. i had a scooby t-shirt and the captain said that is my car.

got to talking and he said he had a 2004 wrx and wanted to put a sti engine in and wanted to know if the wrx gearbox would be alright or would he have to get the sti gearbox aswell.
does anyone know if this would be ok?

That's a combination I'd love to try out. I love the flexibility that the long 3rd and 4th gears give me in my 03 WRX PPP, but add the extra bhp, and more importantly torque of an STi lump and it should be superb. When I drive an STi 6 speed I often feel like I spend half my life changing gear, and loosing time in the process. I was in a 350bhp/400lbft T25 today, and each change lasted about 2 seconds. I think some longer gearing would have been an advantage in this instance.
