I'd love to RTFM, but it's all in Japanese... so...
On my STI, I can press the middle one of the three heater controls to switch between fresh and recicrulated air, and the orange light toggles on and off. However, if I press and hold the button for a few seconds, the light blinks a few times.
What does the blinking signify? Are there any other controls in the car that might not be obvious without the ability to decipher the manual?

It increases turbo boost whilst the led flashes for increased performance hence 'Extra Boost'
Both the middle one and the right hand one do it; it puts them into 'automatic' mode, i.e. they come on when the car decides it needs them.
For example, if it's really hot and you select a sensible temp, if they're on auto the aircon will come on and the air will be re-circulated.

i looked, and read the owners manual,
Nothing wrote down about it, and although mine flashes, it doesnt seem to do anything cool...
Mine also has the AUTO position, and its a UK model

Thanks for looking - I think I worked it out, though:
Pressing the recirc or a/c buttons for a few seconds makes the light blink and puts that feature into auto mode. So, if the cabin temperature is too warm, the a/c comes on, and if it's too cold, the a/c turns off. Recirc switches on if it's much too hot outside for the a/c to be able to cool fresh air as it comes in.
Pressing either button again switches the corresponding feature back to manual mode.
It's a cool toy, if you'll pardon the pun, but somehow I still find myself fiddling with the controls a lot more than I did in my MY00 which was fully manual.

As AndyC said, I've been playing with mine over the last couple of days and it does seem a good idea. I do find my AC very good though and hardly touch it once the car has cooled after getting in on a day like today and then it's only the temp that's adjusted. Maybe the people who are having poor cooling should get their dealer to regas/top-up their systems..?

I think the aircon is very poor and I have a MY05 STI. Also it really slows the car down far more than I expected. If i'm doing 70 down the motorway and put aircon on, I have to put about another 1" on the throttle to maintain speed.

From: Please excuse my Spelling - its not the best !!
Have to admit the A/C in my MY05 does not seem as cold as the A/C in my old MY02.
The heater does not seem up to much either - certainly doesn't melt you like the one on the CTR did !
