I just leave mine set to auto.
The only time i might use it manually is at motorway speeds on warm days.

Maybe I'm being stupid, but I didn't think there was an automatic setting? I have a 2003 WRX STI and the handbook doesn't seem to say anything about an 'auto' mode...

Ignoring my lack of understanding, but how does it work ?

I assume it cools the engine in some way allowing for more power ? but doesn't cold water damage it ?

Could it be fitted to a 1999 turbo? is there any point ?

thanks

When sprayed with cold water, the intercooler is more efficient at cooling the air that passes through it. The air intake temperature is thus decreased theoretically giving better response than would be acheived without. I tend to use it when the outside temperature is higher than normal, and every so often just to keep the intercooler running at its optimum. Noticible gains with the right conditions.

I'm Scottish. The prevailing weather up here ensures a more than adequate supply of droplets for intercooler-cooling purposes, hence the bottle has never been topped up! Only time mine gets used is rejoining the track after sitting in a pit lane.

I leave mine on auto, and i drive it fairly hard so it uses a fair bit.

I usually give it a good soaking manually if i've been sitting at lights or there's a good overtaking manouvre imminent.
