Question

I am getting all the necessary hardware together for a DIY water spray mod and
It occurred to me that a virtual infinite supply of pure water from the a/c unit is discarded while the unit is running.
Have any members exploited this useful by product ? With a bit of pipework refilling of the water reservoir could be made redundant .

What a staggeringly good idea!!

I have no knowledge of mechanics, etc at all, so I have no idea whether this is even feasible, but it sounds like a winner.

nice one Rob.

I think you'll find that the small dribble of water from the a/c system will be well short for supplying a water spray system. I would hguess that a water spray uses around a pint of water every 1-2 minutes. So a week of driving with the a/c on full might give enough water for about 5 seconds!

ok point taken chaps . Maybe the amount discharged is not sufficient , but the quantity will be proportional to the degree of humidity and temperature . Here in Oz 30 degrees + are frequent during the summer months - a/c's are working overtime particularly in traffic .
Enormous heat soak is created under bonnet in these conditions and intercoolers become very inefficient - So I speculate max volume discharged will occur during extreme conditions requiring the plentiful use of the i/c spray.
I have fitted a collection vessel to the a/c pipe and propose to measure the quantity of water available.

I've got to agree with Iain's comment - the amount of water from the a/c system is not nearly enough....

Although a lot smaller than the Scoobymania item, Forge Motorsport do a combined water spray/washer tank for the newer cars - see
