Who owns Subaru???
Boys N Gals...
I have been having a discussion
with a friend who loves her vauxhall's... about performance etc. She then pulled a joker out the pack to say Subaru is owned by Vauxhall???
She managed to back it up with some website links but they didn't work...
Is this true??? Do Vauxhall own Subaru?? are we driving around in a modded vectra or astra???

Mostly Fuji but I believe GM have about 10% share and the same for BMW, hence the Subaru AWD system appearing in the X5.

AFAIK GM don't own Fuji, but there is some sort of link up between them. There's a link to Subaru from the GM website?
Take a look at this Saab 92, it's basically an Impreza with a Saab bodyshell http://www.saabusa.com/saabjsp/92x/index.jsp

Don't think GM has any seats on Subaru board, & they don't have any influence on the company. Subaru sold GM the shares so that they can access GM's component purchasing power as well as their distribution network, GM wanted Subaru shares cos they want their 4wd technology.
what a joke, the estate model looks more or less identical to the impreza i can understand why saab want to copy the impreza, with the impreza being such as good seller some one was going to jump on band wagon sooner or later. i am suprised subaru let them though.

Irrespective of who owns shares in whos companies; large companies like Nissan with their huge manufacturing capacities will frequesntly be used os OEM suppliers for other car manufacturers.

gm owns a piece of subaru. they've got a dozen or so marques they own straightout though.
the new saab is an impreza with a different grill
the next saab is a tribeca. subaru hasn't even released it yet and gm's already playing around with it.
as far as nissan, the sideview mirror thingy on my door says nissan underneath. this is the first i've heard of bmw having connections with subaru

OK guys n gals...
I have passed on the info to the Vauxhall lass and she has come back with the following!!
The guy that posted about the BMW X5 has it wrong - that is based on a range rover not a Scooby!
Vauxhall have their own 4wd system and the Scooby one is incompatible with Vauxhall engines - therefore Vauxhall didn't want Scooby shares for the 4wd system cos it would be useless to them.
If GM didn't own a large stake of Scooby, then why would they take a Zafira out to Japan and rebadge it Scooby?!?!
Vauxhall (not GM) also have shares in ProDrive as parts were fitted to the MV6 Omega.
What do you think???

GM owns about 20% of Subaru. Although our company car scheme in the UK is still Vauxhall only

Vauxhall's 4 wd system is rubbish - remember having to replace all 4 tyres on a calibra 4x4 if one tyre went as otherwise you'd blow the box?
GM (who own Vauxhall annd Saab) bought 20% of the FHI shareholding in Subaru (as the guy above said) for access to a compact sized (by american standards) 4X4 SUV package and for a large compact SUV wrt the Tribeca. So it wasn't just for the 4x4 system that GM bought shares, it was to avoid the costs and, more importantly, for a company that is in dire trouble as GM are, the development time involved in producing a vehicle that matched that growing market segment. In the US ( which is the only place that these "Saabura's" will be sold) there has finally been some movement away from the monster 4X4s and towards more sensible and frugal equivalents.
Zafira? - Scooby took the Zafira to Japan, not GM. However, it was for the same reason as GM bought shares in Subaru and as a part of that deal - because Subaru didn't have a 7 seater equivalent model at that time in Japan and was getting hammered by all the Previas and Serena equivalents. These "badge engineering" deals happen all the time all around the world. The fact that GM was more in need of a quick fix for the bigger US market meant that a hard deal could be driven by FHI.
GM/ Vauxhall do not won shares in Prodrive - they were one of Prodrive's clients on the Omega- mainly owned by a venture capital firm these days as DR cashed most of his chips in.
So overall, her replies were pants. Tell her to stop listening to Swiss Toni in the showroom so much....

I don't think there is a current pure breed car about any more. Even TVR use old 3.5 V8's from other sources until recently!
I started a thread on Car Relations. It's a good game.
