WHICH IS A BETTER BUY ?
#1
LOOKING AT BUYING EITHER A STI VERSION 4 (98 S) OR A STI TYPE R (98 S).
SEEMS ENGINE/POWER/SUSPENSION HAVE LITTLE DIFFERENCES - MAIN CHANGE IS GEARBOX (LOWER GEARED ON R), COUPE RATHER THAN SALOON AND NO ABS.
ANY VIEWS ON WHICH WOULD BE A BETTER BUY ?

The only thing I would say, and I have a TypeR, is that the resale value of the coupe will probably be a little higher than the saloon, as there are less of them around. The gearing on the coupe can get on your nerves a little, as 4,000rpm = 80mph. However, the lack of ABS is not a problem, as ABS on scoobs traditionally kicks in too early anyway!!
Go for the TypeR!!

Type R is far more challenging to drive on the limit.
The main difference comes from the diff control.
It is also the most driveable (imho) if you know what you're doing.
The gear *can* grate a little at times, but I genuinely don't notice it except on very rare occasions.
They are both stunning cars, it's personal preference at the end of the day.
Cheers
