P1 Powerstation results

Thanks to Rich and Dirk at PS today my car handles the way Prodrive should have made it!
Its still not perfect but much crisper turn in and feel.
Tyres next cos I think the P-ZERO`S are crap.
And then maybe I`ll invest in that STI steering rack that I paid for but got a standard UK one instead!
Then maybe some POWERFLEX bushes.
Intersting power figures for all you tecno freaks.......258BHP ...........thats with Prodrive backbox and 2100 miles and 97 RON oh and my car has been hammered quite a bit so I expect it to be well loosened up!

258 BHp ? Did they give you any idea where the other 22 Bhp went ? I'd expect my WRX to do that but it hasnt been tuned to UK fuel the way the P1 was. Weather ?
PS Dont supposed you've looked in your fuel tank to see if you've really got a brocade in there ? (I know - why would you - still had to ask)

FYI Mine made 265bhp and 238lbft. Problem is no one seems to have put a std STI on for comparison. The two that Ive seen figures for were heavily modified and only just beat std figures for power.
My P1 made 288 on PE rollers which was very comprable to other Std STI's.

I can't remember the Scoobynet UserName of the top bloke who gave me a shot of his P1 at Donington on Friday (Sorry m8, I know you told me twice, but I'm really crap 
).
My observations...
The car was incredibly well set-up to be a safe and easy car to drive. Not necessarily my cup of tea, as the safety takes a litle bit of the fun away IMHO, but a real achievement to get it to handle the way it does....
It was not as quick as an STi, but not far off. You probably wouldn't really notice the difference for much of the time, but when you take it right through a gear, there is just a tiny little bit missing.
I totally believe the results of the Powerstation rollers.
Was the P1 billed as 280BHP?

Torque figure was 215 ft lb`s.
at5560 RPM.
Car now handles well.
Power figure doesnt mean a great deal unless you have other cars on the same rollers on the same day!

Torque figure seems well down too, that's the same as a normal UK car! There surely must be a reason for this.
I went out with Dave Clarke in the P1 he was testing, and he didn't think it was as quick as an STi either.

It is true that the actual day will make a difference - but 215lbft is not strong.
I can't recall seeing many cars that low down, certainly not imports. At that level trade descriptions comes to mind

258hp sounds good - dont forget that the imports power is 280 bhp on Japan superunleaded (which is RON 105 - not Ron 100 - which is their ordinary unleaded)
So you would not expect 280 hp in the UK!
Hence PS is probably not far out

The P1 is not as fast as the sti! - reading other posts the comment was made that the boost is restricted at high revs to stop the car from detting on ron 95 - whereas the sti does not have this safeguard and produces more boost at higher revs (albeit the ecu will restrict ignition advanec to some extent)- but you already knew this?

Is powerstations rolling road reading low / power engineerings reading high? I only ask because my '95 WRX made 264bhp at Power Engineering last week and it is standard apart from a blitz induction kit and a cat-back exhaust. That was using BP 97 ron, and it was a hot day as well. Anyone fancy organising a rolling road bash?

I didnt operate the rolling road the other day and yes I thought the car would produce more power but it feels quick.
Naybe on another set of rollers it would produce 400bhp!

The P1 produces the same bhp and torque as an STI fact.
Top Gear tested the P1 against the EVO VI and it was quicker, and once above 100mph pulled away. I suspect with the superior bodykit of the P1 it would pull away from a std STI as well.
Still what do I care 2 weeks of P1 ownership left

...however the P1 OFFICIAL UK spec is...

Hence why I mention trade descriptions - do I think those figures are acheivable - perhaps - but evidence would suggest otherwise.
As Jonathan once asked me - when I got 248bhp and 240ish torque - didn't the car feel slow - well NO actually - it's just that now I have over 270ish torque it feels a hell of a lot faster! Miss it - Miss out

Crikey, even a 10 year old standard cossie can produce over 260Lb/Ft easily, my own cossie engine is producing over 340Lb/Ft of torque and that’s with just a chip and injector change, no fancy internal work.
I would be most unhappy/furious if that is a genuine reading as we all know, its torque that counts and not power.

PS I am arranging another rolling road day in Luton at PTS. Of all the rollers I've been on, theirs seems the most accurate.
Not intended to compete with Shaun's event, more to complement it and help people that live nearer.

There are less standard sti's out there everyday - so an encounter with a P1 on the road would be pointless

Well most people know my oppinions about RR's , and whilst I felt the PS figures I got were on the low side, PTS gave my car..........330bhp/370ftlbs !!!!!. The main problem I have with the PTS figures, are first I KNOW I don't have 370ftlbs (I wish) and secondly, the torque graph looked like a bhp graph, and the bhp graph looked like it was the torque....Hmmmm.
They are obviously wrong, even though PTS insisted that they were correct.......where's the PUB !!!.
PTS are local, so I'll no doubt come along, and have something to talk about, next time I go to AA

The RB5 with powerpack performed very badly - on Well Lanes rolling road last September!

Try beating my 340bhp and 425 lb/ft they gave my Escort Cossie, after they did a conversion on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IT HAS TO BE CLEARLY STATED, THAT POWERSTATION DO HAVE THE MOST ACCURATE ROLLERS.....PROBABLY IN THE WORLD!!!!!!! Even though they will not be as accurate as a Engine Dyno, they do seem to be the best out of the bunch!
At the end of the day, BHP means ****!!! It is how it performs on the road that counts.....Just ask the midlands boyz, how my OLD cossie faired up, against Richard Squires, Possum Linked 22b!!!!!!!!
