Talking What's a fast but feasible 0-100 time for a modded new-age scoob?

Was chatting to a bloke at w**k about Subarus when he mentioned that his son had a new Subaru, but wasn't knowledgeable enough about model types to tell me what kind. All he could recall was that the colour was light (silver, or perhaps WR1 Ice Blue?) Had a big rear spoiler (that narrows it down ) it was modified and that his son claimed that it's 0-100 time was in the 9s. Does that seem feasible or reasonable?

Nope, IMHO. Unless it's a Sport and he's talking in KPH

I think the official 0-100 on a WR1 is a Little under 11seconds (10.7 or sommat) IIRC

That's got me thinking now...I've never measured the 0-100 on my scoob

Thought not... Just did a quick search (don't normally bother, the search facility's a bit cack) and found that the WR1's about 12 ish seconds*. What sort of power would a Scoob need for that kind of performance?

*In real world times, not claimed ones...

400+ IIRC Andy F is running in the 9s with over 400, as are others (just in case others get offended)

Meaning he bogs down at the start and changes gear like a Granny

Right... Not completely in the realms of cloud-cuckoo-land then, but definitely into serious, expensive modification territory. Seeing as you're in the saddle, Tav, would you have the slightest idea what the budget would be for a reliable 400-450 BHP in an Impreza? 2.0l, of course.

LOL.. Is that what everyone does? We can only just afford to run our scoob properly, without budgeting for fried clutches and mullered gearboxes, so I don't do speed trials in mine.

Has a normal WR1 owner ever approached the claimed time?

And FFS, Let's not turn this into a WR1 thread.......

Geoff, at a guess, and I'm not an expert, but I reckon it'd probably be in the £5k plus bracket, probably more (unless you do a lot of the work yourself).

You might want to PM Andy, David Wallace or John BAnks to see what is required but I know it wouldn't be cheap!

Thanks Tav, but I'm not in the business of wanting to go back to the guy to tell him his son is a liar and grind his face into the dirt, I just wanted to get a feel for an aspect of scoobs that I haven't really looked into, and to be better informed for future discussions!

I could well be embarrassed if he has spent 4-5k on mods......

Not as much as that guy if he has and then puts in a warranty claim.

Hallelujah!! That's a real shame, isn't it? That it's relatively easy and cheap to get 4-500 bhp out of an *vo, but expensive and fraught with the spectre of disaster to do the same with a scoob.

We know they're ace cars, though.

It doesn't have to go bang though does it.

I'm sure a claim would be rejected for anything on the grounds it has been modified.

Dealership:

"Sorry sir, your seat stitching has come apart due to the power modifications which actually makes your warranty null and void."

The WR1 is still the fastest scoob ever, wish I had one.
10.7 is amazing for a std car.

I entered 550bhp for me with a dry weight of 1230kg (optimistic)

And it gave me a quarter time of 10.87 or something.

Nice to see sub 7 second 0-100!

Was andy's 550bhp with the nitrous running?

Not tried the calculator thing, but I reckon on my modded (284bhp) WRX is getting around or just under 13secs 0-100 with a decent but not car-threatening launch etc. In straight line blast, there was nothing significant between me and an STi PPP I knew - his better gear ratios and 4bhp extra (measured on the same rollers on the same day) was offset by higher weight.

Even accepting the WR1 time, I wouldn't expect to see an exhaust and Tek'd STi (330-340bhp at PE) get under 11 secs 0-100, although I have no problem if someone can prove me wrong!

Edit to add - calculator thing agrees with me - 12.85 0-100.
