MY02 WRX Dashboard Warning Lights
Hopefully someone will be able to help me?
Was driving up to my parents last night for Xmas day and all was going well
After about 190 miles was coming to the end of my journey when I got stuck behind an old Camper Van doing about 50 on a 60 road. Clear road, no probs decided to overtake
Was in 5th gear loads of road so just dropped it into 4th and floored it past.... at this point a warning light started flashing on my dashboard (unfortunately I don't have my manual with me so can't look it up).
The sign is situated directly to the right of where it says "Fuel Door" and looked a lot like a reservoir/bottle sign? I found a link that looked like the same dashboard but the diagram only shows a "Check Engine" warning sign which appears to be roughly in the same position but slightly higher with no mention of what I saw?
Can anyone help?
Cheers
Andy
PS. Forgot to mention that after I finished overtaking and pulled back in, car back into 5th gear the flashing light stopped?
Is my coolant getting low or something?

As above check Coolant and washer Bottle
f it were a MY02STi it could be the intercooler spray bottle in the boot, R/H side is a common to flash on dash and would want topping up.

Thanks for the response guys
Have now checked both and it's the coolant is just under the minimum mark
Don't suppose anybody knows if there's any special requirements for the coolant? I just popped round to the local garage and the only stuff they sold was some long life anti-freeze/coolant (red) which had a BIG warning on it saying do not mix with Blue as it the red contains a chemical which when mixed with the other (blue) it causes the anti-freeze to turn into a gel which would then fc$k your coolant system????

Update: Have checked inside coolant reservoir and the liquid appears to be of a greenish colour, can anyone suggest what would be best for me to do?
I've got to drive approx 200 miles hopme tomorrow and I've just been to Halfords who only seem to have either standard or advanced coolant (for greater temps) but I've read on here that you should not mix coolant types as it can cause problems?
Would I be ok if I just topped it up into the "safe" zone with water?
Thanks for any help

i had exactly same thing
long journey then dropped it down a gear ,floored it to get past a lorry and the light i had come on was the engine warning light
took it to my subaru garage and they hooked it up to the computer and it had registered a misfire at the time it happened (only it hadnt misfired .they then suggested it was probably a faulty "nuetral position sensor" they changed it under warranty.
all was going well it seemed
then on a long jorney last week booted it after 2 hrs on the road hey presto flashing engine warning light
now i seem to remember this happened to our scoob 6 mths after we got it and the engineer said it was probebly a faulty "cat sensor" which sounds more resonable than the "nuetral position one"
so i'll be back to subaru in january
bear in mind if your car doesnt change in performance/sound/temprature its probably the sensor that is faulty rather than an actuall fault

Topped up the Coolant with water this morning and have since done a 200 mile journey and all appears to be ok
Got to do some more mileage over the next few days so will watch and see if anything changes...
