Default track cars.....

I was looking to import an old R32 GTR a while ago but the importer is was dealing with has seemed to have lost interest

Anyway..... now thinking of an Impreza STi RA

Would i be right in thinking that very late 94 is when the 'decent' RA's were launched.... The ones with variable centre diff, close ratios, light weight, decent engine etc.

Any problems specific to that model? And colours...... all i seem to find is white..... What colours do they come in?

I'm looking to import fresh from japan, and i'm not too bothered about making uk road legal imediatly.

Thumbs up

Seems like your not aloud to ask your fellow Regional members questions or advice on here, Ive had a couple moved myself inc one asking if anyone "LOCAL" was selling a car - some nonce moved it into the 'general' wanted section!

Hows it going Adam?, Colin off CS (until the Ban ) good on you deciding towards a Scoob for your next track weapon, my knowledge is as always minimal but RA sounds awesome........hope to see you at the meet on Thursday and i'll let you see my recently purchased scoob (MY96 with PPP).

PS. Shouldnt you be finishing 1 before starting another:P

You would be far better off getting a Caterfield style car, far far cheaper to run and insure on track, more fun too.

Scoobynet moderation can be over active at times, plus they do tend to not like any regional member posts other than for meets, no real reason for it..

As far as I can remember I though it was early 95 for the ra's with dccd though? (Would that be the v2 sti variant?) 93 model years certainly dont have that.

Seen 95 models in red as well. Nothing worse with that model or you need to look out for than any other early import turbo- possibly more likely to have been thrashed though so be carefull when buying.

from info i've managed to find.....

http://www.j-garage.com/4110.htm

1992.10 : The first Impreza WRX is introduced. [ Type-A ]
The Impreza WRX is powered by a FJ20 horizontally opposed 2.0-litre DOHC intercooler-turbocharged 'BOXER' engine. The full-time 4WD system has a center and rear viscous-type LSD. The WRX Type-RA competition base model is designed for entry in motor sport. With an intercooler water splay and close ratio transmission gearbox, horsepower is at 240PS/6000rpm and torque at 31.0Kg-m/5000rpm (WRX & WRX Type-RA).

1994. 1 : Impreza WRX STi series is introduced.
STi (Subaru Tecnica International) hand-tunes the WRX for sale by order only. Available in manual transmission only, the STi features high-strength forged pistons, light weight HLA, improved intercooler efficiency, intercooler water spray, a FUJITSUBO exhaust muffler, re-mapped ECU tune, carbon-fibre strut tower bar, Cherry Red trimmed exclusive bucket seats and large size rear spoiler.
Horsepower and torque is increased to 250PS/6500rpm and 31.5Kg-m/3500rpm respectively (WRX STi & WRX STi-wagon)

1994.10 : Impreza WRX [ Type-C ]
There is some minor changes.
Horsepower 260PS/6500rpm torque 31.5Kg-m/5000rpm( WRX & WRX Type-RA)

1994.11 : Impreza WRX Type-RA STi.
Impreza WRX Type-RA STi is introduced. A drivers control center differential (DCCD) is employed to control the torque split between the front and rear wheels. Standard equipment include the handmade engine produced by STi, exclusive ECU, quick-shift, power steering oil cooler, rear 2-way mechanical LSD, carbon strut tower bar, large size rear spoiler and roof ventilator.
Horsepower is increased to 275PS/6500rpm and torque to 32.5Kg-m/4000rpm (WRX STi Type-RA)

1995. 8 : Impreza WRX STi 2
Impreza WRX STi-2 is introduced with limited edition "555" blue colours.
Horsepower : 275PS/6500rpm, torque : 32.5kg-m/4000rpm (WRX STi-2)
Horsepower : 260PS/6500rpm, torque : 31.5kg-m/5000rpm (WRX STi-2 wagon)

1996.2 : Limited Edition "V-limited" is introduced.
The Impreza WRX Type-RA STi-2 V-limited package includes Sports-blue body color, original bucket seats, a WRC championship emblem, manual air-conditioning and a limited edition number-build plate, sitting on gold STi alloy wheels.
The WRX V-limited package includes ABS, green glass, original bucket seats, a WRC championship emblem, gold alloy wheels the same as the STi, and limited edition number-build plate.

1996. 8 : Impreza WRX & Impreza WRX STi-3 [ Type-D ]
The BOXER-MASTER4 FJ20 engine is further improved. The engine uses molybdenum coated low-friction pistons, multi-point injection system, IHI RHF5HB turbine and a large size intercooler. In the asethetics department, a mild facelift for the WRX includes new front and rear bumpers, new headlight and taillight design and a new grille. An SRS airbag adds to passenger safety. As for the WRX STi type-RA, braking performance is improved by using 16 inch, 4-pot callipers at the front and 15 inch, 2-pot callipers at the rear.
Horsepower 280PS/6500rpm torque 33.5kg-m/4000rpm (WRX, WRX Type-RA)
Horsepower 280PS/6500rpm torque 35.0kg-m/4000rpm(WRX STi version)
Horsepower 240PS/6000rpm torque 31.0kg-m/3000rpm (wagon)

1997.01 : Impreza WRX STi-3 V-limited.
The WRX WRX STi-3 V-limited package includes original bucket seats, a WRC championship emblem, carbon-fibre instrument panel and a limited edition number-build plate.

Horsepower 280PS/6500rpm torque 36.0kg-m/4000rpm (WRX STi version).

1998.1 : V-limited.
The Impreza WRX Type-RA STi-4 V-limited package includes auto air conditioning, power window, powered door locks, electric door mirrors, a faster steering rack and front helical LSD. The Impreza WRX Type-R V-limited package includes STi engine that is the same as the Type-R STi, ABS, fog lamps, auto air conditioning, power windows, central locking, electric door mirrors, but no intercooler water splay.
The Impreza WRX Type-R STi V-limited package is the same as standard type-R STi except for the emblems and body colour.

I bought a 1994 Type RA to use as a track car from the importers auction at the docks. Well worth considering.

Cheers

Adam,

My mate just bought a MY94 WRX RA last week.

Paid £4600 for it.
Totally standard except for coilovers & exhaust.

But the Nov 94 onwards are the closed deck ones, but these are the better spec engines, just expect to pay a good bit more for one.

It's going to the Top Marques at Knockhill on Thursday for it's first outing.

So the 93 RA doesnt have the closed deck motor? What else makes them 20ps less than the later car?

Im about to pay £4700 for a supposedly immaculate 93 WRX RA with coilovers, exhaust etc. And some nasty split rims that will just HAVE to go.

Spoke with her last night... She is going back to uni for a year in a month or so.... so wont really need 1 car, let alone two

And i wont really use it, if i get my buckets working LOL

Still... if i can get one cheap enough.... i cant see her complaining when she gets a shot
