Default WR1 at Castle Combe race circuit

Clive and I were at Castle Combe race circuit yesterday by invitation from Subaru. Mike Wood from Prodrive was there to with the Prodrive WR1. One of the higlights of the day was being driven sideways around Castle Combe by Mike in the WR1 at high speed. :>))))))))))

Did you see Castle Combe's "not so new looking" Subaru with the crunch?

One of the instructors (who will remain nameless!) lost it on Tower, Saturday.... oops

Nope, I guess they were hiding it to stop the nervous types from being even more worried

Yeah Mike was great. Gave us a good show around the track and plenty of time to chat about the car.

I thought that you'd taught him everything you knew.......Does that mean you can't drive for toffee either?

Thanks, Nick.

I have to admit the Prodrive strut brace fitted to the WR1 is excellent. I've ordered one for mine.

He a real approachable chap aswell

I have been around in a Prodrive live car on the Rally section 4 times twice with 'Instructors' once with Mike and once myself. The "Instructors wern't in the same League. Mike also took me on the high speed circiut in a MY02Sti a 'Lister day'

I could sit next to Mike all day and sad to say I enjoyed it more than me driving it by the way nearly as good as Arron before he starts LOL

Tony

Ps

Mike was explaining Part 1 "how to get it sideways into the corner" and our session ended perhaps I should of waited for Part 2 "Now it's sideways this is how you...." LOL

Iain,

I was there too, it was indeed a good day out!

Also got a ride from Mike in the WR1 (thanks Mike) and, contrary to some of the previous threads on here, it didn't seem to be suffering from understeer from where I was sitting!

I agree, Mike is a nice chap, however I am still no closer to evaluating the car properly. - As much as I have always wanted a Scooby, I am not sure I am happy with all its compromises as an everyday car if its capabilites cannot be evaluated in a safe environment.

Can any one point out a helpful dealer - I am in the Midlands, but dont mind travelling to a helpful dealer - Looking to buy a 1 yr old STi PPP in a few months - unless there are any good 04 stock clearance prices....

Griff,
I've been lucky sorry a poor analogy, but Mike/Nick/Simon are 'employed by Prodrive' and not directly by IM/Subaru/Subaru dealers' So you wont yeild any results by harrassing, begging, creeping to Prodrive directly. Simularly you can't buy Prodrive Products from Prodrive you have to contact Subaru IMHO IIRC etc.

They, 'Prodrive' are ceertainly the best 'Hosts' I've had the pleasure of meeting this was either arranged, by, "Dealer by Invitition," Privately booked "Prodrive live day" or an "Issue with PPP"

There is a 'company' that runs the 'Prodrive Live Days' for about £300 ish you can drive a prodrive live car, as seen on Top gear Part in a Group 'N' spec ish car and a other part in a Land Rover. many of which are sold to 'red Letter days' 'Boots'
etc.

There is also Popular Full Corperate days, Rally section 'Subaru', Hi speed section, Skid Pan and wet handling. using various car makes

i'll see if i can find info

Sorry M8 my Dealer, Listers Worc's was flavour of the month for a few years back and organised/ran these sort of 'Trackdays' By 'Employing' Prodrive to provide it which Prodrive did because of there Sponsership ties with "Subaru". IIRC

I have spoken and met Mike/Nick & Simon on few occasions and they have many times corrected my "Mistaken quotes" on Scoobynet i could pull more strings to get you to see the Queen, than to see them

And sorry if I mislead you that way

Tony

Ps appologise's for going off the WR1 at Castle coombe thread

And i'm not Udrive, sorry

Hello ajm, I couldn't detect the understeer either. I think Mike putting the car side ways through the S's sorted that :>) Either that or the strut brace makes a big difference. The WR1 sounded gorgeous as Mike went through the gears.

Don't worry about going off the thread GRIFF007, no harm in having a general chat about things.

I'm back.... took me a couple of days to recover from the grin factor, thanks to Mike.

It's not every day another guy can make me smile like that,,,,, good job there was a WR1 involved in this event, otherwise there would be some questions asked.

A top tastic day, cheers Mike for everything.
Top Guy, I do want your job................. anychance of a job swap for a couple of weeks.
