My MY00 is just coming up for it's 1,000 mile service and have been quoted £136 by Chapelgate at Ferndown, Dorset. Is this par for the course? Are these boys any good?
I have to admit to not keeping below 4,000 rpm the entire time but have not ripped it nor let it labour. Someone please put my mind at rest that this should be OK. Cheers.

I would shop around. The 1000 mile is a very small service - all they do is replace the running-in oil and check the car over. I was only charged about £35 (just the cost of the oil) - this was done by the main dealer who sold me the car.

You don't say whether you imported the car or bought it new in the UK and this may have some bearing on the price quoted.

Cheers

Chris

Yup, it's an import. The guy said the service should take 1.5 hours. So if the oil costs £35 that makes the labour £66 an hour! Nah, nah (can't write that sound off Family Fortunes). He suggested Mobil One, how many litres are required?
Any comments on the running-in?

MarkM,

I know of some of the servicing guys at Chappelgate and from what I gather they are ok. However, I dont think that Chappelgate would hesitate at ripping you off.

I actually wanted a new car but the lead times were bad so looked at their second hand cars. Prices were a rip off. They had a 60,000 mile Scooby for 15k. It was up at more too.

Anyway, you could try Hughes (01202 381888) in Poole. They import WRX and STi and do the service for them. Dont know how much. If you find out let me know. Nice guys though and seem very helpful. Thats were I was thinking of getting mine done when it gets there.

The labour cost of the 1st service is included in the cost of a new UK car. You have to pay for the labour on the 1st service for a Euro import. Mine cost £114 (Adams in Aylesbury), but I could have got that down by supplying my own oil if I'd wanted to.

I've still saved 7000UKP though (including alarm fitting + estimated cost of extra 2 years warranty).

The Dutch don't have/require this first service and cars from Holland don't have the running-in oil in them. It's generally thought of as a good idea to have the 1K service anyway just in case of any warranty issues.

I used Hughes for a 6k on my STi.
I won't be going back there unless I really really have too. The cost was £130 I think.
They could not have been less helpful if they tried, I wanted to buy a car, they wouldn't give me a test drive, never phoned me with stock updates so I went elsewhere.
I have since asked them advice and questions and or got yes or no answers so I personnally would never recommend them to anyone.
Chapelgate were suprising friendly when I went out there to enquire about some parts but they wouldn't touch imports. Worth knowing if the mechanics are interested in some moonlighting though...bkar - Any thoughts?
MarkM, You say it's an import, presumably a Euro import?

RichB,

Interesting knowing that. Must admit I was surprised how helpful they were. Bought my fuel neck restrictor from there and the guy took the trouble to got to one of the cars in the showroom and explain how it fitted in. They also gave me a some forms for SVA testing and told me the places to go and to avoid. (Ive imported a WRX)

I will find out whether someone will be interested in doing some "other" work in the area - nudge nudge wink wink . Ill give someone a ring tonight.

PS. Have you been anywhere else in the area.

Yup again, Euro import from Holland.
Did a bit more research today and got the following results:
Crossroad Garage, Alresford - £97 inc VAT using Protection Plus oil
Mill Lane, Basingstoke - £100 inc VAT
Sparshatts, Botley - £110 inc VAT for semi synthetic oil (Duckhams QXL), £125 for synthetic (Mobil One 5W40). Geezer there was quite the oil connoisseur and reckoned that Mobil was the Chateau Lafite for your Scoob. I have to say that all responded positively to the news it was an import (and so they should).
Anyway armed with your helpful comments and any others you can provide on choice of oil..., I will speak with Chapelgate again. I have arranged a drive in a Boxster whilst the Scoob is having the treatment so that I can compare!

Unhappy

bkar,
Maybe I was unlucky. Although I went there twice to buy, once for a service and again for advice of my suspension and they were never that helpful. The guy in the office OK was but the workshop chaps were not.
I haven't tried anywhere else localy, someone mentioned Nicson in Poole but I haven't been there. I am off to Roger Clarks in Leics this weekend for the service, I have friends in the same village and Alton Towers is not very far away.
Are you in the Bmouth/Poole area? What you got?

bkar,
I'm in Poole, I lived in Bstone for 20 years though. Look out for a black v4 4dr STi R**WRX...
Let me know if you use Hughes, did you buy from them? If you did...I expect they will be fine.
Actually mate, I would like to have a look at your WRX, my suspension is lowered and I was thinking of swapping it back to the original springs but before I do I want to see if the originals stuff is much different. Any chance of a spin sometime?

RichB,

Yep no problem - let me wait till the car has done its 1,000 miles and is a bit more legal then it is now.

Actually I didnt buy from Hughes but imported direct. That's why I found it surprising that they were helpful.

By the way, I'm getting the alarm fitted by Orpington Car Stereos across the street from Hughes. Got any gen. on them ?

My email is bkar@talk21.com.

Is your STI the 280bhp or 300bhp model ? Do you have a different back box ? I would also be interested in seing your car.

Nickp

I had my 1st service at Adams(UK car supplied by them) They charged me £110 because I'd shopped round the local dealers- big deal!

I didn't know I was supposed to get it much cheaper. In the hand book it says that the 1st service used to be labour free but is not the case any more. I didn't argue.

As for the oil, I used to use nothing but Mobil 1 in other cars but have been advised by dealers that it is too thin for Scoobs. Is this still the case anybody?

Any way I'd like to know more about your import, please e-mail me.

MY00 1K service at Days of Chelmsford, £35 with standard Shell Helix oil.
Car was supplied by them, so far can't fault this dealer.

bkar,

Well - looks like you're on the road (judging by your recent post). Did the SVA go ok, and did you have to wait until it was done, before you could get the car registered with the DVLA? My SVA is booked for next week, and then I have to wait for DVLA - which could be a few days/weeks depending on the area.

Trigggaar,

Of course I hope none of my post gave you the impression I was driving the car prior to Wed. as I could only legally drive the car on Wed. and I wouldnt want to sound as if I was being naughty.

Oddly though, for a new car that has only just had its tax disc, it seems to have a fair few miles on it :P

Had my SVA test on Tues. morning. Had a minor problem with the rear fog and drove around trying to get it fixed. By lunchtime it was fixed and I was on my way back to Poole. Then went personally to the DVLA office in the afternoon to register the car and had some number plates made.

On Wed. my wife picked up the tax disc and presto - I was street legal

Ive just got to do some remaining miles to get to the 1,000.

Oy, that's my car!

Bit of a ridiculous question here, but what's it like - will I like it?

I haven't seen one yet - ever (as in MY00 WRX).

I test drove an old uk spec, and there were no other cars I was interested in (ie, non imprezas)- and I prefered a wrx for 3.5k less than a uk model, so I just ordered one.

Are you planning on taking it on track? And what mods are you planning?
