Default MY04 Impreza WRX Free Servicing - 1000 mile service

My car is in for its 1000 mile service (+PPP ) today. When I brought the car I was advised that as it was after 1st April that I would get three years free servicing.

However, when I dropped the car off this morning for the 1000 mile service they said that this was not included and i'd have to pay and that the free servicing only covers the first three big services i.e. 10, 20 and 30K. Is this right or are they having a laugh as I am positive that they said that all of the services were included for the first three years.

Anyone else had this yet?

Subaru's website says:
You can now enjoy freedom from servicing bills for the next 3 years* on all normally aspirated Foresters, Impreza WRXs and Legacy 2.0 and 2.5 Saloon and Sports Tourer models registered between 5th April and 30th June 2004.

So get down to your local dealer and enjoy the feeling of freedom.

This offer is not made in conjunction with any other offers and applies to models above. Available at participating dealers only. *Free servicing offer covers labour and parts as detailed in the service and warranty booklet for the first 3 years or 36,000miles (whichever comes sooner).
So the offer applies for the first three years, with no mentioned exclusions.

Go and get a refund !

Jiggerypokery,

Thanks for that I will have a look on the Subaru website and see if I can print it off and then take it up with the dealer.

Del T,

It states in the above quote "on all normally aspirated Foresters, Impreza WRXs"

Normally aspirated means non-turbo so this doesnt cover your car as its got a hoofing great turbo on it. Saying that I didnt know Subaru made a non-turbo WRX so some clarification is needed from Subaru me thinks.

Anyways, stop moaning about paying for the first service it'll be a pittance and its not like you cant afford it

"on all normally aspirated Foresters, Impreza WRXs"

This means it applies to Impreza WRX's which I assume Del T's car is. The "normally aspirated" part applies to Foresters only as there is no N/A WRX

Just looked on Subaru UK's website and it does state

"free servicing offer covers labour and parts as detailed in the service and warrenty booklet for the first three years of 36K (whichever comes sooner)"

So I spoke to IM direct.

They say that the 1000 mile service is included in the offer and that they will phone the dealer to advise them of this. Looks like I will be popular when I pick the car up then!

Hope this info helps anyone else in the same situation.

My WRX hasn't done 1000 yet but the dealer did state specifically that the 1000 mile service wasn't covered. It seems strange to me that there is no documentation supplied about the free servicing deal - it's only documented in advertising. So you don't really know where you stand.

what seems even odder is that a company that is promoting free servicing for 3 years, which is a big hook for some people, and worth a fair amount of money, is willing to lose customer loyalty and trust by trying to sneak £100 out of you.

It's not even £100, it should be more like £40 - £50 as the labour was always free for the first service anyway. Only the consumables are charged for.

... but I know I'd rather spend 40 quid on optimax than give it to a Subaru garage unnecessarily.

Its official - the free servicing does cover the first four services i.e 1k, 10k, 20k and 30k. I have just picked up my car ready for a bit of an argument about it and the chap from IM had already sent them a fax confirming that it is covered.

If anyone has the same problem then speak to IM direct using the phone number from the contact us section on the subaru Uk website. Ask them to phone the dealer for you to clarify the situation.

I know its not a lot of money - £54 I was quoted, but its the principle of the matter and I would rather spend it on something else especially when I was advised when I brought the car that it was free.
