whats best to remove wax polish etc?

Brillo pads should do it, if you want to make sure all the wax is taken off dip the pads in Nitromorse every now and again.

Errr.... I would suggest that you leave atleast a thin coat of polish on the paint. I have had logos on and off my race car and after taking a nice big chunk of paint off last year I always make sure there is something on the surface. I take it you are getting rally style decals? If its a small sticker then not so much of a problem.

For hands that do dishes "its mild green fairy liquid" I cleaned my paint with autoglym , the stickers went on really well and stuck like the proverbial $hit to a blanket
