FMIC group buy THE CHEAPEST YOU WILL GET AND THE NICEST LOOKING
here goes,Been speaking to some one i know about a fmic and it comes about that he is developing one at this time,(lucky me
)
I mentioned, could he make about 10 for a group buy on scoobynet at a good price,the 1st one goes on a car this week for testing and if it all goes well they will start to make them up.
They come with CARBON pipes and samco bends and he is tryin to make them so you will not need to cut your bumper(if not its a very small cut).
There is two sorts that he is doing 280/300bhp(which is good for the uk cars) and there is a 350bhp(for anyother scooby)but he can make them 400bhp+ if you need it (just a bit more money)
the best bit
the 280/300bhp if we get 10 people will be about £600/£650 and thats with all the pipes and bends
the 350bhp is about £150 more ISH, TBA
its a deal its a steal its sale of the f*ckin century
if you state which one you would like and add to the list

Have to ask, whats the difference between a 500bhp fmic and one that is only for 300bhp?
Ive got a FMIC but would be interested in whats said. Why doesnt he just make the 500bhp FMIC in the beginning like HKS/Blitz etc do?
Carbon pipes sound the daddy though! I take it there will be no issues using carbon pipes?

where they imported or uk dealer?? and if they where imported how much tax didu pay if any??
that pipe work looks mega long ,and how much did u have to cut off your bumpers?? and WAS IT + VAT AND P&P ??

Hybrid ones are imported. They are a good piece of kit but alot of work is required to fit them. You have to cut ALOT of bumper. It felt to me as if i've cut away half the bumper.
Some people from the groupbuy got away with having to pay zero duty and others had to pay around £100.

I have to cut ALOT from the bumper as well when I mounted my HKS intercooler a few years ago.
I still think that we should get the hybrid one, so come on all what do you say??

Dont forget the longer the pipe work the more lag u get and that pipe work looks a tad long + i am not cutting a £3,500 + vat bumper lol

First up, appologies for the Tag, but i've had to borrow a log-in name to get on line to answer a few of your questions.

Down to business: FAQs
Q) Do i have to cut the bumper?
A) The first FMIC fitting is going ahead this week and it is looking increasingly like the bumper is only going to need two small semi-circle cuts, ,one on each side of the lower opening to allow the hoses to pass behind the bumper. You will however have to remove any grill in the lower part of the bumper.( Very early models have to have some plastic grilling cut away, and unfortunately there is no way of getting around that.)
Q) How big is the i/cooler matrix?
A) It is approx. 2 to 2 1/2 times the volume of the standard one ( for the 280bhp version) It also is the same size as the opening i.e. 700mm long and 160mm high, (hence there is virtually no cutting of the bumper required)
The higher bhp versions will be the same length and height but it will be deeper which means you still should not have to cut much or any of the bumper away.
Q) Why not produce the higher bhp version as standard? and what's the difference?
A) I go back to my last answer, the higher horse power matrix is bigger, but that puts the price up. There are also a lot of sub 300bhp cars out there that will suit the standard one and that is where i hope to get the volume of sales.
The only difference with a higher bhp i/cooler is that it can handle a larger volume/ flow of air, and the only problem with making the matrix very big for say up to 500bhp, is that if your car is only 300bhp then you are going to have a worse lag time and you gain no more power with a 500bhp i/cooler than you would with a 350bhp one. You would be better off getting an intercooler to suit the bhp of your car to maximise it's performance.
Q) What's the difference between carbon fibre hosing and metal?
A) The reason for having a FMIC is to lower the induction temperature, if you put metal tubing or hosing in your i/cooler system, then over a short period of time the metal tubing conducts the heat from the engine (and in the case of alloy it does it extremely well) and thus it increases the temp of the air going through it -NOT IDEAL!
But with Carbon fibre it is not such a good heat conductor so it helps keep the induction temperature down. Also the carbon tubing is manufactured by my company, and my biggest customer is Samco Sport who have just put it in their product range for use in induction and i/cooler kits!!! Need i say more.

Sounds very interesting. A few pics would be great.
Couple of points tho.... why would anybody with 280-300bhp (in the UK) really want to spend £650 on a FMIC when the standard one (even the pre97 slanty type) is more than capable at this power level? Also the conductivity of the metal pipes can work in your favour.... the very hot air out of the turbo will have some of the heat disipated from the metal pipes into the atmosphere (pre intercooler). Obviously the oposite is correct on the other side of the intercooler when the metal pipes will absorb the underbonnet heat. Why do the WRC cars not use carbon pipes?

The Group Buy price for Hybrid as Tony knows, is currently 708$ U.S. approx £385 so even with full duty charged they are a lot less money than: "THE CHEAPEST YOU WILL GET AND THE NICEST LOOKING "
Cannot comment on the looks as beauty is in the eye of the beholder but we have imported 39no. to date and a fair percentage have been fitted, mine included.
I was intending to do another group buy in May for those that have not sorted something else out in the meantime.

As Harvey said for value for money the Hybrid can not be beaten.... full stop. I'm just very curious how the pipework for this one is laid out and the core design. Sounds like an interesting solution.... just being nosey tho as my TMIC is more than enough for 320 bhp .
