What water depth can Scoobies wade through before they go bang??
#1
Just wondered if anyone had managed to drown a Scooby. I managed to get through a flood on Friday deep enough to bring the bow wave (at walking pace in 1st gear with a slipped clutch...) up to the bonnet line, something I'm not keen to repeat... It misfired a bit once it was out the other side and then it picked up it's skirt just got on with doing what it does best!
Any disasters on here then?

Presumably you'll be ok as long as the water level doesn't get past the airbox. You could get a snorkel fitted like they do on Landies if you like a bit of paddling
The pic in question is the infamous, nay legendary, 'Scooby in a Lake' (SIAL) which has sapped more bandwidth than any other image on the internet, barring ****

This really sounds like the private eye letters page now ...
Anyhow, you want to avoid getting water in the engine at all costs. You were probably bloody close if I understand what you've posted.
The standard air intake is high up under the bonnet on the driver's side, which then gets routed through the wing and into the filter.
You do not want to go any deeper, and I'd be wary about repeating that feat again!

Am well aware of the consequences of trying to compress water with a piston engine! But it was dark and raining, I was tired and almost at the end of my journey in unfamiliar territory, and anyway it didn't look quite so deep at the start... although I would have to confess to not having been able to see the end of the flood from the beginning, if you see what I mean. Also, I was basing my (admittedly dodgy and probably stupid) attempt at crossing the Great Sea of Cirencester (or wherever it was) on the belief that in creating a small bow wave in front of the car, you ensure that the engine bay itself has a lower level than otherwise would be present. This rather shaky theory came from a Land-Rovering friend.
But I won't be practising in the Scoob again...
