Cem,
I know exactly how you feel. On a school trip to Alton Towers in 1981, I and several of my friends waved at an elderly couple in an Austin Princess, but they deliberately ignored us. Didn,t they realise the effect it would have on a bunch of 14 year olds?

I have made of point of boycotting all Austin cars ever since. Ha, that'll teach 'em!!

I've seen a similar thing happen in real life!

In Kensington High Street, an old skool businesman came striding past at a fair old speed looking distressed. He was closely followed by a particularly rough looking tramp.
The guy stopped just passed us held his brief case to his chest between him and the tramp, and shouted 'what do you want!??!'
The tramp sidled up to him sneering menacingly saying 'I said hello and YOU didn't answer'
I was laughing so much my stomach hurt.

I was thinking about organising a get together maybee a car park or field so we can sit in rows facing each other and wave to our hearts content. Maybe a prize for the most enthusiastic wave or bestest light flash. I would be good to get together face to face and discuss waving techniques, duration of wave and just how energetically thw wave manoeuver should be performed.

Hmm Paul,
I like the idea of that. A certificate could be issued to all who attended on the day stating that they have reached the requesite level of Subaru acknowledgment. A large bonnet sticker would be issued with each cerificate so that onwers will immediately recognise who they are likely to get the correct response from on the highway. This would save a lot of confusion and heartache in the cut throat world of waving that we seem to have fallen into.

The sooner this mess is sorted out, the safer and happier we will all be.

I've just been arrested (well nearly) for practicing my waving. I was sat in a back street minding my own business experimenting with me waves and these two coppers pulled me out of the car and asked my what i was doing. I explined that waving is an important part of Scooby culture and was was in the process of perfecting my hand movements. They said that i was talking bollox and that i was a filthy pervert - It was at this point that i realised (to my horror) that i had pulled up next to the local girls school and thety thought i was waving at the girlies. Honestly!. I got let off the hook when a passing Scooby driver flashed and waved (good combination that - very impressive and i wish i had thought of it)
They let me off with a warning. Just goes to show that you MUST be careful where you practice or you too could be mistakenly confused for one of those perverts!!!

P.S. is pervert another name for a Cossie driver?

The thing with the wave is...

Smoothness is best. Even though it feels slower, it will probably be quicker.

Angle is important too..

Often passengers comment that my waves are a lot less sideways than they expected, but the truth is, this is a compliment because it means you are balancing the wave properly so as not to upset the balance of the rest of your arm.

I spent some time testing waves at Millbrook and found that if you lower it by 1/4 inch it is slightly quicker.

Just some observations

Regards

Simon

Actually a name and shame list would be ideal.

Take the reg no of the scooby and post it to the list. That way we get a league table of grumpy so and so's that don't wave back.

Waves could also be rated on style, timeliness and orginality.

We'd end up with a load of the best wavers on the road.

It looks like Chris Coulson and I will have to do a 'Scoobywave' video next to show you how it's done.

It will, of course, have a section by Pete Croney on how to set up your car for waving and flashing purposes!

I was toying with the idea of getting my wave uprated, maybe starting with a free-flow arm & getting the wrist-watch removed, or perhaps going the whole hog and getting one of those Jap. import waves, I'm not sure how well they work over here though.

I find the two finger approach works best(raised gently from the steering wheel) in case the scoob is owned by some geriatric farmer, and you dont look daft when he doesnt wave back!!!!

I waved one with hand one finger raised I also smiled and flashed my lights. Why did none of you sad Scoobs flash or wave.

I think Pete at Scoobysport is working on a uprated wave pack at the moment.

It's all a bit hush hush but from what I can gather it will consist of a free flowing elbow unit, allowing far greater arm movement at higher revs and a larger hand unit. It is also possible to change the centre section - this is available with or without a wrist watch area. If you wish to use your own centre section the wrist watch can simply be cut off.

If you think scooby waving is a pain, try riding a bike, specially on a sunny Sunday, sigh!

When I was a kid the Queen came to open some building in my home town. As she sped by in her car, she waved at me. I don't remember if she was in a Scooby. Probably not, as this was about 1970. Even if she wasn't, if the Queen can wave at some snotty little punk not even in a car then we can all wave at each other and do it properly .

I don't know whether to go for the uprated Scoobysport wave or have my arm redone by Power Engineering. Does anyone have experience of this and will it affect my warranty?

Our up rated Wave device has finished testing and we are currently awaiting Subaru UK approval of this product.

Features...

Carbon fibre foil shaped profile to reduce turbulence and drag when waving at high speed.

Fully adjustable for pivot AND swivel

Integrated HID units with usable night time wave range of over 1000m

Fully programmable for future wave trends but incorporating all current known waves such as "high 5" and "shaka".

Most importantly, the system is fully automatic. It will detect another Impreza at 2000m and will activate at 1000m, allowing the driver to retain full control of the vehicle.

We are currently working on an even further up rated unit, The Arny Wave. This unit with withstand wind speeds of 160mph. Rob Mac will be testing this unit on the Millbrook high speed bowl, over the next 10 days.

Damn this has got me all fired up.

How about this then

Remove the fog lights fitted into the front spoiler.fit a couple of small headlamp wiper motors in their place (now the clever bit) replace the wiper blades with plastic cut outs of hands!!
Think of it - no manual waving, no frigging about stubbing your *** out on the roof lining when you wave and forget you have a *** on the go.

BRILLIANT
