Started the car up this morning and went to take the missus into work and my first gear kept playing up. It'd go in fine, but everytime I went to shift to 2nd, no high revs or anything it'd kinda stick then pop out.

Is this normal?

 

Not really normal to stick that badly, but the gearboxes can be a bit tight when the oil is cold. If you are on standard oil try changing this to castrol syntrax, it helps smooth the change out for most people.
