Question

Car is coming up to its first annual service(10000 miles).Been quoted approx £300 by CVC Cardiff, this includes annual body check.
Is this a good price or does anyone know better.

Cheers

Chip.

Question

Easy Tiger !!!!!!

That sounds way over the top....servicing on a Turbo is oil & filter every 7500mls or 6 months, then at 15000ml or 12 months comes a first annual service. Considering all that is needed on top of the oil and filter is inspections (of components that are easily on view when the car is on the ramp), the cost should be marginally more than than the first service...what are they charging £300 for ?????

I suggest you look in your handbook for all the details re the schedule. BTW the servicing guide in the SIDC FAQ has an error in it spark plugs on a Turbo are not changed at 15000mls but at 60000mls/4yrs, though this does not mean that you cannot change them earlier especially on a hard used example. Plug change will a add a fair bit to the bill.

Chip,

I think you will find that the body inspection alone is about £100 (what I was told when I bought mine) so that's only £200 for the service. Oh they do replace the plugs. But as mine is just going in for its 7500 mile service I'm can't tell you whether £200 is a fair price for an annual service.

Cool

I understood that the plugs were NOT changed at the 15k service either.

It should be about 100 quid for a service and 100 quid for a body inspection at most. Unless they are doing something extra special, 300 quid sounds a bit steep for that early on in the cars life.

Regards

Sunilp,

Sorry mate it says in my service book that plugs are replaced every 12 months / 15k miles. And since they are probably expensive plugs, that'll put up the price of the service.

my book tells me that plugs are not changed on "turbo"model on first annual service.it is not easy to understand by the way that it has been wrote.
anyway, mine is just about to go in for first annual and i have been quoted £160 plus approx £50 for body service.
hope this helps.

You all put the fear of God into me with some of these 15K service charges. My MY99 goes in next week. So I rang to ask how much. The answer: £160 including VAT and the body work check. I provide my own oil, it's got an induction kit so doesn't need an air filter, so I should be able to £25-30 off the price (I hope).

Sounds like £300 is a rip off - and Cardiff -should be cheaper than Bristol

Plugs DO NOT need changing until 30k miles!

Should cost no more than £100 for body check - well actually they do jack s**t!

15,000 mile service should be oil and filter only + general check - as nothing goes wrong with these cars its a piece of cake

Labour time for service should not be more than one hour (it takes them about 20 mins actually) and body service about the same (takes about 5 mins!)

Why do we get sooooo.. ripped off - I have an import so OK, take to a local garage - labour charge £15+vat for oil and filter change (yes I know, a bit pricy!)

6000 mile service cost a total of £64 including vat - and my 12,000 mile service will cost the same!! sounds like you get ripped off on the parts as well - Subaru oil filter costs about £6 +vat!

How come there is so much difference in what official Subaru UK dealers charge for servicing? Can't all be down to differences in labour rates. Probably due to the small number of dealers and us Scooby owners not phoning around to find the cheapest. Just another case getting ripped off left right and center

Oh my 7500 mile service is going to be £55. But that dosen't include oil.

Isn't there a site where you fill in details of what services cost so we can see who are the cheapest dealers. Might have some influence if you can quote prices to your dealer. Especially if they are quoting stupid prices as Chip's dealer obviously has.

So much for JD Power #1. Are dealers really that great? - I think not!

I was charged in excess of £150 for the 1st year bodywork grease 'fill-up' bringing total cost to £350ish. OK so who's the dummy!

To take servicing a bit further - have just been quoted £477, £365 and £370 for the same 30,000 mile service - is the £360 mark normal?

Cheers

Question

Mine is due its 15,000 mile service this month. I have noticed my front Pads seem a little low and probably need replacing, does this seem about right for the "good" 4 Pot MY99 Front Brakes ?

No sign of cracked disc's yet !

Any idea of the cost of standard MY99 front Pads ?

Aaron,

I'm sure there was a post on this just recently. Standard pads are Ferrodo (sp?) and you can get them for about £40, dealer will charge you about £90. Someone is bound to correct me on this considering the way today has gone so far

Actually, oil filter is £9.55 + VAT from Cheam Subaru (TOP GUYS!)

I dunno about std pads as i run SS Brembos with their Brembo pads at a cool £106 + VAT and the way i brake i'll be replacing them often!

Aaron, the pads life will depend on how use use em!

Oh the usefullness of scoobynet.

Thought I had been stung at £270 at Gatwick Group in Crawley (I changed because I finally had my fill of Lancaster Sevenoaks)for my 15,000 mile service, but they all seem to be pretty much within the same range.

Anyway have to say top quality service and really nice and helpfull staff.

an interesting article in the Telegraph last week... Old boy with a Mazda took his car (and wife) to Belgium for a 60,000 service. It worked out cheaper even after paying for ferry and accomadation., surprise surprise.

Recently had my 22,500 service including body work service for £220. £80 of which was for the body work. By the way I was conned with my last car as far as body warranties go as well paying £80 for what I thought was b***er all work. However having changed servicing dealer. The differnce this time is unbelievable. The entire underside of the car was cleaned and a new layer of waxoil applied (or what ever it is they use). Reslut the car smells like brand new, and I realised I was conned last time because this was not the case then
