WRX Vs STi

Can anyone please tell me the core differences between a WRX and an STi? (not the new shape, im talking about the 1992 - 2000 shape) for some strange reason no one can completely tell the two apart. im sure Subaru didn't make an STi for nothing there must be some technical and mechanical differences in the engine, suspension, chasis, body , ect ect
please can someone shed some much needed light in the matter.
to extend on the question Subaru have made so many versions of the impretza , STi versions 2,3,4,5,6 The RB5, The 22B, 555, P1 Typr R , whatis the best model out the lot, over all. Whats the difference between an STi and an Sti version 6, or typr Ra or typr R. Can anyone who really knows their subaru's please HELP!!!!

thats a big old question to ask
the diffrences between the 2 changed on a year by year basis
the sti is considerd a improved version of the wrx with better spec`d parts
