Gear problems?
#1
Hi,
I've a MY03 WRX PPP with 4,200 miles on the clock, less than 3 months old.
During the last 500 miles or so, I've noticed that when changing up through the 'box, there sometimes a reluctance for the gearbox to select the next gear smoothly. It's like the gearstick can't be moved through the gate into the next gear (not a good explanation I know). It doesn't appear to be temperature related but is definately engine rpm related.
The higher the rpm the worse the problem is. If you drive and change up through the box at around 3,000rpm, generally it is OK. But try doing the same thing and changing up at 5,000 - 6,000 rpm and it often won't select 4th or 5th gear easily.
5th gear is the worst by far, if you're in 4th above 5,000rpm and try changing to 5th, it crunches the gears (ouch!) and won't select 5th at all sometimes.
No I don't thrash the car, yes I am pressing the clutch pedal all the way to the floor and yes 5,000rpm in 4th is above 70mph but I've highlighted the problem to show how/where the issue arises.
The car is under warranty and will be taking a trip to the local dealers soon, but i wondered if anyone any ideas what will be causing this?
Thanks,
Chris.

I've noticed mine is doing a similar thing when selecting reverse from cold first thing in the morning. Reluctant to go in an takes a couple of tries.
MY03WRX standard 7K on the clock.

Pockman - MY 03 WRX PPP is a bit notchy when you try and change gear fast when revs are high, it feels like it is crunching just a bit - particularly into 3rd. I change up carefully to avoid damaging the box and have read that it gets better with more miles - mines done 4500 now. Also gears hard to select when the car is cold like yours Whitey - not just reverse either.
Will see how it goes over the next few thou

similar prob, couldn't get 5th cleanly... got pissied of when i ended up in 3rd instead of 5th changing up @ 6.5k revs... not good the missuse spat her gum out! i nealy had a coranry and the rev counter was on the wrong side of 8k...
Any how had a few words with mr dealer next day and they replaced the linkage complete... now its a lot better... not entirley sure if it the same problem but with checking the linkage it may not bey giving enough travel!
dealer job!
