Hi guys,
I've found an RB5 WR Sport for sale at a Subaru dealer for £13,995. Its got 50,500 miles on the clock.

What do you guys reckon for this price?
Will the car be ok with 50,000 on the clock, or do things start going wrong about now ie. turbo, AFM etc?

Advice please asap guys!!

Thanks very much
Lee

price sounds a little too high for that, all depends on what u r trading in, if anything and try to get a high price on teh other car.

I managed to talk them down a grand when i got mine.

things to be aware of.

check the service book, hopefully its been well looked after and has a FSH.

Check that the stamps are ligitimate, i noticed on mine, the dodgy subaru dealer stamped some in, (the earlier stamps were different so i noticed!!!)

I noticed ur from surrey, there's quite a few rb5 owners round that way, maybe u can ask one of them to accompany u to have a look at it, ask on www.rb5oc.co.uk.

there are some for sale on the For sale section also.

The price is about right from a dealer, although you could get one quite a bit cheaper privately. There are some good ones for sale on here (who will no doubt be along shortly ) I recently sold mine to a dealer, who sold it on at £13995. He sold it within a fortnight and had a lot of interest so they are selling at this price. Definitely worth a bit of haggling though.
There shouldnt be any major problems at that mileage. The cambelt should definitely have been changed by now. Brake discs could well be shot, but if so treat that as a haggling point. Subaru discs and pads will cost you about £400, but you would be better with Pagids or similar anyway.
You will presumably get a 12 month warranty with the car for peace of mind.
Do you know what number the car is? Check on the owners club to see if anyone knows of it - http://www.forums.dchosted.com/rb5oc/

Best of luck. The RB5 is a wonderful car, generally regarded as one of the best in the range.

As the car is coming from a dealer assuming it will have a warranty so if the turbo step out of line they would fix it.

May be worth looking in the For Sales forum as there is at least one nice example in there like this one and its a lot cheaper. Subaru UK will allow you to extend the standard 3 year warranty to five on any car 3 year old car for around 300-400 quid. This option would give you the same car with warranty but a 2k cheaper.

I am not trading in any car part-ex for this scoob (if I buy it).

I would like to buy one private with an extended warranty, but because all RB5's were registered in 1999, all of the standard subaru 3yr warranty's will have expired.

Because I havent has a scoob before, I really want one with warranty in case it all goes ****-up!!! £££££££!!

I've looked on this forum and the rb5 forum, but there doesnt seem to be any rb5 wr sports for sale with warranty.

Help???? Ideas????

Thanx guys

Question

Um, what about mine? Mine has warranty until June next year and the ad is still up on RB5OC.

Hi

Make sure it is a real WRSport.
Does it have WRSport on the speedo?
I have one and love it to bits.
Let me know if you want any specific info.
Beware of insurance quotes and ensure they are quoting you on a WRSport.
Only real prob I had after it was 3 yrs old was a leaking oil crank seal - replaced on warranty.
Good luck
Jas

Two points

1) Some RB5 owners may have extended their warranties so you may find a 1999 registered version with some cover (I didn't bother with mine as I have never had any problems!)
2) You could always buy an annual warranty separately!

How much are you willing to pay for a private sale - mine only has 25,000 miles on the clock and was upgraded to WR status two years ago

jjk: hi mate, have u been on our forum or registered your RB5, wot number is yours?.

jumbomechanic : see RB5 Register to see if there's any record of the number RB5 you are looking at.

Many of the RB5 owners would have extended the warranty for another 2-3 yrs, well worth it.

Do you know wot number it is, the one you're looking at?

RB5 320, when did u sell yours?
