If you're talking the UK spec MY01/2/3 cars, the fundamental differences are that the STi has a different turbo, as well as the six speed gearbox/Suretrac diffs etc etc..

Thus, changing the turbo and remapping to suit would indeed bring STi-type power levels, but in doing so you'd be invalidating the warranty, which may be an issue with a new-ish car.

Don't forget also that one of the reasons the WRX PPP does so well in synthetic 0-60 benchmarks is that it'll do it in 2nd gear. The STi needs a change to third, thus "costing" it a couple or three tenths. Under real-world driving condition, the six speed box is the better option, and the STi is still a fair bit quicker than the WRX PPP - even if it is theoretically slower to 60mph.

considering the PPP gives an almost equal BHP improvement in both cars, what are the main differences in the STI over the WRX?

And is it possible to add those changes to bring the engine power up to similar levels?

EVO mag clocked a PPP WRX 0- 60 @ 4.8secs!!! and top of 150mph.

Speed wise cant be far off an STI, but from what i hear STI is a more rounded package. If you already have a WRX then PPP is the way forward as the £1600 cost would be far outweighed by a PX allowence against an STI.

Unless of course the figures tested in the magazine don't quite live up to those advertised... then you'll be told the car was suffering from "heat soak" he he....
