Hullo

Ive got some PIAA driving lights @120Watts. Apparently anything not E cerified and lowre that 55W is ileagal on the public road.

Is this true, and can I get nicked for using them in the dark with main beam?

Cool

Can't comment on the "E" mark but I think that its a conformity of safety issue (ie won't blow up & kill you)

BUT

Driving lights can be more than 55W

I know this for 100% because I did a Driver Improvement Course with SIDC/Dick Grimes and when he said they were OK, made the point of asking him twice for comfirmation.

I then went & bought some SS 130W Cibies

The law allows "Driving Lights" of any wattage but you are not allowed to dazzle other road-users - hence why foglight users get it all the time. So drive around with driving lights on all the time, blinding people then its an offence - use in the dark with no on-coming traffic & no problem + you can see

I've now got 35W Driving Lights but as they're HIDs then they're as good as the PIAAs anyway - the 120mm version are even brighter

The only come on with main beam so no day time dazzle for others. They came with the car as its an RB5, so I wouldnt have though subaru could sell a car with ilegal lights.

Its just halfords patter then.

Excellent, so I won't cancel my order for Scoobysport's HID driving lights in a fortnight...
