I have just become the owner of an absolutely excellent condition (1994) WRX RA, With 69k, it is very very tidy & in excellent condition throughout.
My question is :- when I start the motor from cold it seems very lumpy or un-settled, and sometimes its difficult to start & there seems to be quite a strong fuel smell, is this normal considering it has a Blitz dump valve, or is it the nature of the beast. It also has a close ratio quaife gearbox, so it uses quite high rev's, travelling at about 70 mph its showing nearly 4k, is this ok ? ?
Could you guy's give me some info on this motor, and what would be your recommendations as to its expeceted mpg & should I take it to my local Impreza agent & have a diagnostic check just to check things out.
The car is a minter though & I want to make sure things are working correctly.

sounds like a nice car you got yourself there! not sure about the struggle to start first thing??
mpg will hover around 15 - 20 i would suspect - i get about 16-17 from my wrx wagon - done a bit of tuning. i do drive it hard though.
good choice of motor, glad you are happy with it. i would suggest that as it is an import and with a lack of dealer history to maintain, dropping oil out every 3.5 k and change filter.
i do this as i feel imo that its adviseable (can never treat her too nice). use silcolene pro 4 10-40w its the dogs.

ps: gearing is probably about right if you say it has a quaife with different ratios. - think mine is at about 3.5k at 70 - hope this helps.
