Correct me if i'm wrong but the idea behind modifications are to either improve performance (Speed/sound etc), or to make your car unique . It seems from following different threads everyone (except me) has some form of mod carried out . My car goes fast enough thank you (brown undies to prove it) so mods would purely be for styling . I like how my car looks as it is (why i bought it).Does that therefore make my un-modified car unique in its own special way or are there other mod virgins out there?

It depends on how you look at it really, but the idea of a car being fast enough is where the philosophy lyes,

I think the problem with speed is you become used to it like the buzz you get when you first floor it in the STI, or the first time you put a backbox on the car and you get that flat four rumble,

I don't know how you feel about your car but at some point you will probably want more !!

Cool

If you are happy with your car don't change it. Use your money for something else or save it for that proverbial rainy day.

Me? I did some performance upgrades such as Ecutek3 custom remap & decat downpipe + boost gauge, cross drilled & grooved disks, steel braided brake pipes and even bought a set of spare wheels and quality winter tyres. Also took an anti-skid / handing driving course. Under no circumstances will a "wide boy" dustbin exhaust and star trek spoiler be going on my car! :O

For me its the looks rather than more power. I suppose the only exception to that would be the back box, but then that serves both purposes. I have no inclination of going any faster (at the moment) and lets face it, the slower you go, the more people get to see your pride and joy

Cool

I thought the same when I got both my scoobs but after playing around with the mod's (Full Scooby d cat on current car) and the changes it makes to both power and noise then it sow's the seed in your mind how fast can this thing actually go....what else can be done to make the thing handle better.

You will be surpised big time.

Wished I had modded my old R reg UK Turbo and not the Uk300 I have now (power is way down!)

MY98- totally unmodified except gay gold alloys!
That's the way it is staying. The money i save not modifying the car will go towards an STi one day.

I'm about to have a few mods on mine. (98 V4 Type R)
While the engine is stripped I'm gonna have some uprated internals such as crank, pistons, injectors, rods, different oil pump etc. This is not so much for performance than it is for strength. I'll then have a Link ecu, a full exhaust system and a replacement filter. Thats about as far as I want to go. BTW do you more experienced scooby owners think this will give me 350bhp? Or am I speaking out of my ****? (it wouldn't be the first time)

Thumbs up

Treacle,

Have had my standard MY99 Turbo for five months and have no intention of modding it. Goes pretty well without any teaks I think.

I don't actually go along with some of the mods anyway. For instance, who decided that clear side repeaters look better than the standard ones? Surely Subaru would have fitted clear as standard if that was the perceived wisdom at the time?

I won't be modding.

AJ.

I'm a mod virgin as well, but as you know we have the same hesitation problems, so perhaps one of the mods can fix it!

Personally I wouldn't touch a used car if it had been modded, because I assume that if the standard isn't quick enough then the previous owner's the sort of person who'd be giving it a pretty hard time.

PS. Got air con and Clarion CD, I was thinking of mods being performance or styling things.
