How does the ecu kick in the speed limiter then

the speed limiter does not kick in as ,its set to read up to 180 kmh then cut in .

but once its converted the speedo will not go to this cut off point .it will just keep maxing out

simple really

I guess this have come off th opther thread. My question was that if the gearbox sensor was connected directly to the dash then how woudl the ECU control the speed limiter. It must past through the ecu as some point.

Kick in was a badly choosen phase , and quite correctly, it is like a rev limiter when the ECU read 180 it does a fuel cut (I think). I was told there are two places you can put a speed converter.

AFAIK the signal comes from the gearbox to the ECU and then onto the dashboard.

If you places the convert between gearbox and the ecu it converts to mph and limits at 180mph. If you put it between ecu and dash (i.e. ECu has already read the signal from the gerabox in kph) then it will still diplay on the dash in mph BUT the restriction in 180kph/112mph.

I have the restrictor between the ecu and dash so my car displays in mph but limits at 112mph (180kph).
Actually on my converter box I have a kph/mph flick switch so I can swap between them. Good for videoing 0-60 in 2.5 seconds .

This is for an MY00 so not sure if older or newer cars are the same.

Also not good hitting the limiters engines dont like having fuel cut.

Cheers
