SANTA POD DE-BRIEF
#1
Well, what a fantastic day!
My mate Colin and I got there nice and early, and were surprised to see very few cars there. In fat, it was pretty quiet until after lunch, which meant I could get a few runs in (11 in total).
It started of pretty much as usual, with several 13.6's, consisitent, but slower than my best of 13.53secs.
Lots of other cars too....Porsche 928's (14,5secs), FTO's (15secs), Cossies (sloooow! ). and the usual R5's and the like.
Then after lunch it happened.....13.465! A new pb!
My happiness was short lived though when my mate came over with a slip showing 13.419secs!!!
As Colin's car has pretty much the same mods as me, apart from te d/p, my 'fastest std UK' title had gone!
I was determined to win it back, but tried several times, even resorting to dumping ice over the i/c each time, but to no avail. Colin left early a happy man.
I continued in my quest, but the ice ran out, then my petrol, and I resigned myself to defeat.
I decided at 4pm that there was still time though, and off i shot for a bit more SUL.
Then it happened (again!). Maybe it was the cooler air, perhaps my new AP clutch, but whatever the reason.........13.233secs!
Followed by a 13.354 and a 13.283! I had aslo returned to my usual starting technique, and it showed on the timing slip. Here it is ifanyone's interested.....
60ft.........1.609secs
30ft.........5.296secs
1/8 ET......8.341secs
1/8 MPH....81.30
1/4 ET......13.233secs
1/4 MPH....100.34
It was by far my best 60ft time, and also the first time I'd broken the 100mph barrier.
Needless to say I was well chuffed.
Rainbowman managed a 12.7 at the end, so he was happy, and the fastest Scoob was Jon's white 5dr STi again (running 1.7bar) with 13.19 I think.
All in all then, a great day. It was nice to see those who turned up too, especially Darren all the way from Caterham! (well done on your 13.5!).
See you all next time, I'm off for a celebratory drink!
Stef.

I think Shaun has hit the nail on the head, I collect my car from Powerstation this Friday! The next Pod visit times will surely be in the mid to late 12's. Maybe one of the fastest 1/4 mile Scoobs ever, the Water Injection and the new AP clutch will work wonders for me, NO ICE
Watch this space for Shaun and myself, Shaun too is close behind me for mods. His times will also be running for top spot!
Harj...

Only 1 day left until my AP CLUTCH is fitted.
Only 7 days until my EBC and launch control are fitted.
One SantaPod onlooker to another...
"What was that car running in the 12's?"
"Oh, it must of been either Shaun or Harj, in there souped up scoobs"
Shaun. (The Scatman)

Ditto what Stef has already said, an awesome day at the Pod.
Decided to give my car it's first shakedown on the strip. Have to say that the adrenelin rush and buzz is like no other experienced so far in the Scoob. It's only when you look in your rear view mirror at the American V8 Beast you've just wasted, that you realise what a rapid car we drive!
First EVER run.
60ft .... 1.817Sec
330ft ... 5.750Sec
1/8 ET .. 9.045Sec
1/8 MPH . 75.43Mph
1/4 ET .. 14.254Sec
1/4 MPH . 93.78Mph
Well happy with that
Managed another 14.4Sec run later on and a poor starting 15.1Sec. It's been said before, but it's SO true, the race is won and lost at the start! Get your launch right and the rest is plain sailing.
Can't wait until next time. Sub 14Secs looms on the horizon.
Big respect to Stef who was in blinding form today! Is that one lump or two with your intercooler sir? lol
Cheers
Chris

Hi All,
Good to meet some of you guys for the first time today.
Couldn't belive my luck this morning at the Pod, basically running and looping back to the start. Half my runs were on my own because no one else was there
OK, times, not in the same league as you guys but consistant:
15.3, 15.4, 15.3 1/4s (Oh, and a ****-up 17.1).
But with the launch control widget (5 psi of boost on the line), had a 14.78 and a 14.84.
Then I had breakfast and the queues started.
Almost perfect weather, great day out.
Cheers
Ian

Steff the fastest scoob of the day goes to you old chap
I only manged a lowly 13.29...but I might of got 13.19 if I was running 1.7bar
Still can't believe how quick your car is Steff, for whats been done to it anyway!!
Shuan/Harj would of loved to have seen both your cars running today, especially your's Harj with it's water injection it might not be affected by the air temperature as much!!
Anyway watched the video with my 4year old son and he was very exited by the amount of flames comming from Mikes cosworth tail pipe but I suppose 4year olds are easy to impress..LOL

Fastest Scoob on the day?
WAYHAAAY!
Even better.
And Jon's not the only one who can't believe how fast my car is considering what's been done to it......I had to suffer once again the torments of the "no way is your ecu standard, I don't believe you" clan at the end.
Well, for you lot and anyone else who's dubious, just look at my terminal speed. STi's and 'chipped' cars normally cross the line at well over 105mph (Harj's was 108mph!) and that's a big difference n the strip.
I've given it some thought, and it comes down to two things...the launch and gear changes. I am reasonably sure that my launch issot on, 1.60secs to 60ft confirms that, but I think the gearchanges also have something to do with it.
At TRAX last year there was a 0-60 run that gave you a print ou showing your cars speed over time. There was a 'flat spot' in the graph where the car's changed gear. On some cars, this was often around 0.5secs. There are three changes over a 1/4 mile, so that would be 1.5secs on average spent changing gear.
I change gear as fast as possible, and believe this is where tie is made. Just listening to some of the other cars I could tell theywere changing fairly normally.
Hopefully, the addition of quick-shift will improve this further!
Anyway, thanks again to everyone for making it such a great day.
Oh, and Jon, thank your mate for the ice!
Stef.
PS Shaun, when you say 'big boys'. you're not kidding!!! lol

Stef,
Looks like I'm going to have to do some more runs. Low 13's .
Shaun, and Harj must have very quick cars (well I know Harj's goes like sh*t off a shovel, not that I'm calling his car a shovel ).
I'd better do some more tweeks before I turn up though .
Mark.

Nice to meet a couple of you. Good day I reckon: I managed to get into the 15's (alright, 15.96, but it counts), and I managed to beat Stef off the line , not bad for a fat-*** auto. Now all I need to do is filter, exhaust and boost controller, and I'll have you Ian...
Keith (with an incredibly muddy car)
P.S. What's a gear change?

Unfortunately mate my run against you was one where i was experimenting my starts and had decided not to go with the lights but when i was ready! And as everyone is so keen to point out, it's the overall time that counts, not the start. Check your slip, my copy says you crossed the line.......2.7secs after me!!!!
Mark.
We need you there 'cos these two are slagging off Possums too y'know!!!

I know, I know, but I'll take my victories where I can get them I didn't even get to the 60' first you were about a sec faster to it. Not fair, I want 4WD. Bet if I gave my car a good wash I'd knock half a sec off my time Oh well, hopefully I'll see you next time. Disappearing again no doubt

Stef,
Don't know Shaun, or his car: as for Harj, and his car, guess it must be quicker in a straight line .
Seems like Jon, and his 5dr, are the ones to beat. Sub 13 .
Anyone know if Shaun, and Harj's cars are really as quick as they think they are, or have they been sniffing the "Pro-Boost" again .

Your car is more than capable of seeing them both off, believe me. If I can get a 13.2, your car must be capable of 12.7 surely?
Come down next time and find out. I'd love someone to kick their cocky butts!!!

I used to run intercooler sprays and when i was last at the 1/4mile i put crushed ice out of a cooler bag into the water tank and i personally think it did Booger all. The one of the water injection jets blew off and i was just HOSING my intercooler hahah
i thought i was looking cool putting mist all over my intercooler when infact it must have looked like i had a huge water leak
i think water injection might work between 70mph and 100 mph on the strip. ie 3rd and 4th gear but only a little bit.
Why dont u run a charge air temp gauge and check what level it is getting to and then u would be able to see what mods to what on the strip? A decent setup of intercooler sprays could be useful on track days but dont u run kiddy boost anyhows? and if so its probably not worth it.
