Question

Just wondering what's involved in importing a car from the states. Anyone on here done it ??

Questions that spring to mind initially :

- Shipping costs
- Shipping times
- Import duty
- Does it need an SVA test

Any info (or pointers to companies with info) would be appreciated before I start trawling the net !

Thanks

Dave

Import duty is 10% of cost if i rememebr correctly- then they whack VAT on top of the whole sum.

Probably wrong tho- im sure someone will know.

I looked into this when I moved back to the UK from the US.

If you own the car in the US for over 6 months (I think) you are exempt from paying duty and VAT when you bring the car in.

All depends if you have somewhere to store the car in the states and you can wait that long....

Cool

Similar to when you move to New Zealand then, except it's 2 years there . 6 months I could probably live with, but 2 years - argh !!!

I'll try and pick up the mag on the way home tonight, it'll detail I guess.

Thanks guys.

Dave.

Can't find that mag anywhere (classic american). The only place that had heard of it was WH Smith, and they've already returned their's May edition. Anyone got one they could sell me or photo copy the relevant pages from ??
