MY02/03 STI front diff
Finally feel the need to post something about this. I have a standard STI7
Coming home last night from the gym. An Audi TT was following 'closely'. So I thought purely for safety
I'd put a bit of space between us along some country roads. (You know, just to avoid any potential accident should I have to brake sudenly
)
So I gave it what is known in joy riding circles as "the lot".
Couple of slow in fast out 3rd gear corners and when I hit boost the front diff squirms away and unsettles the car. Its not really torque steer but its certainly lively.
I would point out that the road was dry but very poorly surfaced and I was taking no prisoners (allegedly)
Please don't misunderstand this post, I quite like the edgy handling but it does provide a few heartstopping moments.
However, any other MY02/03 STI owners felt his and does anyone know if fitting 18' rims would help a bit?
Usual caveats - not speeding/empty roads/no traffic etcetc
Thanks
Matt

I have a MY03 STi and did find the handling a little intimidating after my RB5! I added a front strutt brace which has really improved the handling and has allowed me to get used to the way the new diffs work without scaring me off from trying!
Not sure it would have the same effect on you car as the front suspension mounts have been changed between the 02 and 03MY!

i first test drove a sti7 when they came out first, i had a p1 at the time, found the front diff terrible pulling you all over the place out of roundabouts, tried one again 6 months later, bought one, had the ppp fitted, never notice any prob, sometimes feel a slight tug on an uphill first gear hairpin whilst wet on the way home from work, the p1 used to spin a front wheel and stick the **** end out on the same bend, the sti just goes, cant comment on the 18's on the sti, had them on the p1, havnt got round to it yet on the sti
