This would have to be planned a LONG time in advance, and would be completely dependant on when any drivers and teams were able to attend, so you couldnt put a date on it and then hope they are avaialable, best thing would be to approach the teams and drivers, and see

1) If they are prepared to do it
2) If they can do it
3) When they can do it

Then set the date !

(my small input )

Yep, IF we get some support and co-operation from Prodrive it will need to fit in with WRC commitments, which are always tight!

Hopefully we could get something done in the next 12 months, but it depends who and what we can get.

Do we also need a fallback position in case prodrive can't fit it in? Some lesser known, but very good, drivers must be up for it!

Good luck to all you Blaggers, may you go forth and be fruitful

If this is going to be a BIG event, then I would suggest that you need at least 6 months to get all the organisational details sorted out, and get enough publicity to make it all worthwhile.

Initials thoughts are:

Generally you can only have one rally car on a stage at any time for safety reasons, unless it is really long, and you could get up to 6, each seperated by 3 minutes or so.

Safety checks would need to be performed after each run, along with occasional tyre changes, oil changes etc. Drivers would also need a rest!

This would mean that each driver taking part, could possibly only do about 20 runs during a day, and unless you "charge" £500+ per run, you aren't going to raise sufficient amounts of money.

On a track however, you could have 20+ cars on at the same time. With each car doing 3 or 4 laps before returning to the pits for say £20 a time, then you have the means to generate huge amounts of money, and at the same time keep waiting times to a minimum for those hoping to get a ride. It also means you can have a much bigger pool of drivers and cars available, which has less impact if one or two can't make it along for operational resaons, or you get any breakdowns during the day.

You could also have different pricing structures: E.g. £100+ for a few laps in a WRC /Group A car with a known driver, down to say £20 for the same time in a Group N car with a lesser known driver.

Thumbs up

John,

Kinda handy having someone who has organised events in the past.

You have things there that I hadn't thought of.

Question

Thinking of dates, what about the Easter weekend or the Mayday bankholiday weekend 2001?

The Mayday one would perhaps be best from a Weather point of view?

I wouldn't have thought that Easter or a Bank Holiday weekend would have been a good idea.

Lots of people go away for a few days, spend time with their family, the roads are always very busy etc.

Also, we seem to be talking about just one event here. Why not have a series of events across the country at different times of the year. Having just one date will mean a lot of disappointed people who can't make it for some reason.

Please don't flame for this I'm only promoting discussion!

Following on from JohnS:
I don't think it would be practical, (in terms of the potential money raised), for us to ask RB, or any other top driver, to do 20 odd runs on a stage/circuit with Joe Public.

What we could do though is to have several 'lesser' drivers to take people around and scare them senseless those that survive that would then be enterd into a draw to get a trip round with RB, or whoever.

That way everyone would get something and also have an equal chance of getting the 'Star Prize'

IMHO
